I haven't been a regular contributer on head-fi, but have read regularly for a long time and have been into hi-end for at least the last 15 years. I'd like to volunteer in some capacity for CanJam'10. Let me know via IM if I can do anything.

Guys given that this is an International Head-Fi meet why don't you ever have your meets outside the US??

There are meets outside the US. The issue is organizing them - CanJam usually goes to a city that has a team of members who have consistently held large meets. There isn't a central planning committee that chooses a location each year and the same people do the planning. It gets handed off to separate teams each time. Given how large and important CanJam is becoming, it won't go to a city that hasn't proven itself.
Also, anyone can organize a meet anywhere they want. If you want to have one, check with places that offer meeting rooms and make arrangements. Start a thread in the Meet Forum, get a group of people together and contact local vendors. If you want a meet, go put one together. Meets are the best part of this hobby. I've been to two and it looks like I'll go to at least four more this year.

I organised a meet where I live, but only two of us turned up.
Anyway, I was so disappointed I had to cancel going to Canjam this year that I've decided I am definitely going next year.

I really hope that this is after mid may. I would be really angry if I was still at school and 1000 miles away.

I hope I can come. I just have to come. Summer is the best season in Chicago imo. LOTS of activity during the summer.

This question was asked and answered in the first couple of pages of the tread. Quoting post #39:

Heck, our counterparts across the pond can't even seem to be able to arrange a decent sized regional meet anywhere in the UK. What gives with that? Seems like anything over 50 miles is a long drive!
There would also be a huge cost factor in terms of getting members and vendors to commit to making it happen. Not to mention the time involved with cross-Atlantic travel.
These are the same issues I've always encountered when I've considered hosting a meet in Cayman (which I've tried to do a couple of times). It wouldn't make sense unless people were coming for at least 4-5 days, so they can see the place, relax on the beaches, etc.
In the case of London, I'd think a week would be perfect, but good luck in: 1) getting enough people interested, and 2) doing it at a time when it works with their schedules.

Hope i can go, I would love to see Chicago besides an overnight layover. Everyone i have met from there is working to go back, which says alot because I have met them in Southern California and we have a weather advantage. The people there are supposed to be the best. I have to admit though, at least in the last few years, all have been Cubs fans and I know it is a split city in that regard.
