Default 2500 Pro vs 2200 HiFi

Been wanting to grab some cans that fold up neat so I can pack them away in a case for use in hotels etc.
I have been looking at the 2500's and was just about to buy when I spotted that the 2200 are some £30 cheaper from the same website, so I thought .. whats the difference between them soundwise etc, or will the 2200 be just as good a headphone as the 2500 give or take the colour!

The 2200ULE is an open design, and uses a gold-plated driver.

The 2500 is also an open can, but uses a higher-resolution, titanium plated drive, and less forgiving of bad recordings & associated gear.

If using for travel, I'd suggest also looking at their closed counterparts - the PRO650 and the PRO750 respectively wrt the drivers.

The PROline 2500 is the open back version of the 750. I have owned the 2500 for a while and really like its sound. However I should mention that not all enjoy its highs, those few indicate they are astrigent and harsh. I do not hear so but I thought I should mention.

BTW, I also use my 2500 as transportable and have enjoyed every second of their use in my office or while traveling. Since it comes w/ two cables you could shorten one and re-terminated it into a 1/8" so it is easier to use while traveling.

Good luck.

ok, so I assume no-one has the 2200, but lots have the 2500 and 750.
I was curious because on the website the 2200 retails for £20 more than the 2500 and 750, but in the sale it comes out to the £30 cheaper.
I have IEM and NC phones for travelling, but was after a set of cans to use whilst away from home, that can be packed away small and not get mashed whilse baggage handlers do there thing.

BT, in my experience the blue paint on the PROline 2500 is not very durable. I have seen many examples where the paint has flaked off and they have plenty of nicks and scratches. I am very careful w/ my gear and the headband on my PROline 2500 looks pretty beat up. It does not matter to me because IMO they sound awesome, but you should know the issue w/ the paint.

The latest 2008 models have an improved headband, and also now come inside a hard-cover case that will withstand much abuse, and protects the cans quite well.

I only bought the 2008 model of PRO 750, 2500, and HFI-780.

There should be many peeps here that have older ones, and bought newer ones, that can answer that.

I was wondering the same thing. I swapped an AKG K271S a while ago for an Ultrasone HFI-2200ULE, but only listened to them briefly when I got them. About a week ago, I pulled them out and gave them a good listen and haven't listened to anything since then. They are very good headphones to my ears. They suffer a bit from lack of detail compared to my DT880 '03, but are much more fun to listen to. I tried the PL2500 a while ago and I think I got rid of them too soon...not enough burn-in as I bought them new. I'm thinking I should revisit them but didn't know whether to go for the older or newer ones.

When I bought my Ultrasones recently, I was thinking about getting one of those leftover (on-sale) pre-2008 ones for less money, since I have read many times that they were sonically the same as the newer ones -- but, I read on the Ultrasone site that the 2008 models had improved headband, improved thicker earpads, and also a new hard-case, too -- all that combined made me just go for the newer 2008 models.

The drivers and technology are still the same, it just perhaps more durable, and the hard case is definately very attractive indeed.
