Frankly, Bluebiss has this issue covered. Firstly, his amps are from the days when SP was doing exceptional work, and if you listened at CanJam...they are a sound to behold.

Secondly, Bluebiss already has 2 techs local to him is Los Angeles that can completely take care of ANY issues whatsoever with the amp. That covers all his bases so he is completely fine with his setup.

Yes - in general if you're into tube audio, it's very worth the effort to track down an excellent tube tech or two in your area. You get to fix your stuff locally for usually reasonable prices, and will sometimes catch problems before they happen. It's a big win-win. This stuff isn't back magic under the hood. An excellent tech can usually sort it out. It might be a mess sometimes, but no magic

Definitely agree, though, most (if not all) of Mikhail's recent-ish work is completely whack. Got bitten by that on an SDS upgrade and had to have one of said techs fix it up.

When I said completely fine with his setup, I meant in regards to any issues he might have with service problems. Sorry if that was not clear.

I brought up this very issue with him during CanJam, as though I highly regard the SinglePower sound, any technical/service issues would scare me away. There is no way I would ever send anything back to Mikhail. In fact, I would never give him a penny as I highly object to his absurd business practices.

But that does not take away from the fact that his amps can sound so good.

Schematics will be posted, detailed pictures and parts numbers for the items that have to be added. The end result will be a much better amp then Mikhail could ever have built and it will last for a long time.

Wow...I can't imagine anyone more competent and patient to do something like this. Hats off to you my friend. I'm sure that will help many an ES-1/ES-2 owner.

There should be a database with the standard SP amp configurations, but that is just dreaming. He had so many different variations that it's crazy to do it for some "Standard" config.

There were different versions, certainly, but most of the amps use just a couple of basic circuit topologies. They are known (and even sold by other companies under different names since the designs are very old and out in the open) but to open up a thread like that we would need the OK from Jude as Mikhail could stir up a lot of trouble for him.

Frankly, what you are doing is a very honorable thing as most of the SinglePower owners are really left out in the cold. You are essentially doing a service to the community by proposing a very tempting support system for people who do have problems.

Where are the owners really going to go? There is no support from Mikhail and SP owners have no real place to turn to. They would have to find a local tech support person and your diagram/part deconstruction would truly help them to that end.

I sincerely hope Jude sees the benefit of such knowledge being public as it would truly help those who make this hobby happen and move forward. Just look at the onslaught of the big headphone manufacturers putting out top notch products. Every headphone enthusiast counts and I would hate to see even one get turned off due to a bad experience, whether its SP amps or not. Anyhow, this is getting off topic, but I hope you see my general sentiments towards this whole thing.

While the SP amps are simple enough (truth be told, most tube amps are quite simple) a good set of schematics and known variations from those schematics would help any tech working on an SP amp. Internal pictures of amps and known issues would also help tremendously. Now get back to posting pics...

i use a rme audio hdspa pcie soundcard connected to a rme multiface 2 outboard box run at 24bits/96khz with symmetrical connections to the amp. next to it there's a pro-ject phonobox 2 phono preamp. as primary source for listening i use the computer, where on a 1.5 TB fileserver all my cds and records are stored as flacs in 16bit/44.1khz and 24bit/96khz qualities respectively.

do any of you have experience with the krell 400 xi? i wonder if it's just me or if the amp is a little lean at high levels and starts to sound a little unpleasant when it gets hot. i am thinking of replacing it with a tube amp...the speakers do 95dB@1W1m so about 30 watts should be enough. any tips?

i'm not sure if i'm 100% pleased with the krell amp though...it seems to sound a little harsh at high levels and the low end could be more present...probably a tube amp would be better? any suggestions? the speakers can do 95dB@1W1m so 30 watts should be enough.
