Nik, your posts about nothing but beautiful music were what lead me to get an HP-2 last year. In the long run, my RS-1 with APS V3 cable was so close to the HP-2 that I relented and traded them to Blutarsky who wanted them more than I did. They are indeed very good, and now that he has an SAA Equinox cable on his HP-1000 they are even better.

They are GORGEOUS Nik, and welcome back to Head-Fi!
I was actually wondering what you've been up to lately as i think it's been a while since Head-fi saw your last rave review of some of the rarest/most expensive cans/amps but i think your latest efforts topped them all, w/ an awesome story to back it up too. Great work buddy

I've heard all of the top offerings and the K-1000 and HP-1000 are my favorites and best of all for my goals. No other phones reach the goal of disappearing and leaving you in the studio or concert hall while having that "magic" quality that's hard to explain.
I'm fortunate to have a pair with fresh drivers thanks to audiofiler (wish I would have kept my backup pair too), but am still sad to hear about the lack of NOS drivers
I wish Joe would pass the torch or continue on with his masterpiece somehow. Even though my drivers will last a long long time, I worry that nothing will be able to match the sound of the HP-1000 even with future offerings...

So can anyone with a HP2 get these improved drivers?
Never mind, read that they were the last pair.

Ya'll come over and take a listen
I, too, have been fortunate in that I have a pair of the "rivised" HP2s from Joe. I was able to compare them to an original pair and the differences were not subtle. Basically, the low end was nicely improved with a greater level of detail/clarity and improved depth which is hard to believe given the original high quality of the HP1000 series. There was also improved detail in the mids allowing for more information retrieval.
If your drivers are functioning properly then Joe may be able to do the wiring upgrade allowing you a level of improvement that even I was skeptical about.
Of course, Joe would need to personally give you the OK for that.
Simply put, Joe made an amazing pair of headphones even more amazing. If anyone is in the Charlotte, NC area I would be happy to have you over to hear them, and the original HP2s so you can compare the two.

Just to be 100% clear, the wiring upgrade is a recable, and nothing to do with the drivers, right?

Yes, in my case that was correct as my drivers were fine. Only the cabling was replaced.

In my case Joseph has changed the drivers for a new pairs and has "improved" those NOS drivers and also recabled the cans.

Congrats on the best pair of headphones ever IMO, I'm wondering what would be the differences between mine ( '05 Joe Revision / Distressed NOS Drivers / SE JGUWBRC ) and your pair ?! Cause they already sound pretty damn good. I can always get a used JGUWBRC RCA-RCA Cable and recable them (Even when I'll have some skills, I wouldn't do it, 1 bad soldering job and the driver's busted) but I'm mostly interested in infos about the drivers tweaks from '09 compared to '05, if anyone knows.

Nik - do you know what exactly was done to "improve" the driver?
Danny - are you aware of what is/can be done to the drivers to "improve" them?
