Yeah it was interesting, I unplugged them to try my 4070 (to make sure I didn't have an amp issue) and it was still crackling. It would stop once I would touch the ends of the connector with my finger, discharging the headphones I guess.
I hope that it is just my pair.
Cheers,
By touching the pins you discharged them which it a good thing to when ever you unplug an ESP.
I really hope this is a one off or we have another HE60 on our hands. The simple reason why nearly 50 year old Stax phones are still in use is that they were properly protected.

Got a note. I will be getting a replacement pair, not repaired. I hope that they pull mine apart for a root cause.
I will now be discharging my STAX from now on. I only had the O2's plugged in, so I never swapped, but now with the 4070's. I am back and forth all the time.

Have you tried more than one amp?
Those of us on the list do NOT want to hear this sort of thing..
The HE60s are quite dust sensitive and have to be babied in this regard or you have to disassemble and clean them thrice a year.
Some call it a design flaw, but it's a feature.
Your mother might have failed to motivate you but the Senns will teach you to keep your listening room tidy and dust free.
Now you know what all your mother's preaches were good for. Finally it makes sense.
Keep the feckin rooms tidy or the sound quality suffers.

I know that this doesn't make it right, but I've had my HE-60's hanging on a stand for 2 years now, and haven't had any problems (and I have to dust my shelves twice a week...living in NYC).
My 1.2's have been on a exposed stand since November without incident. I had HE-90's hanging freely for 2 years without a problem.
I'm only saying this because the last couple of posts have been one-sided.
Stretching mylar must be an incredibly precise art. Let's wait and see if this is the exception to the rule before sending out the lynching mob.
Mikeymad has the right attitude. I have $3600 McIntosh preamp that got repaired twice and I learned that patience is a virtue. The first time my PS Audio P500 sent a surge to the 250mA input fuse, and the second time I opened it myself and saw that an authorized Mc dealer replaced the fuse with a 100mA which kept blowing. Once I received the properly rated fuse from Digikey, I've had 3 years of musical bliss. IMHO.

Does that mean the HE60 doesn't use dust cover film to shield the stators?
I hate to report that as the evening went on the new phones started to develop a crackling (static) sound. First in the left headphone, then in both. Even when it was unplugged. I have contacted Fang and will be sending them back (for repair/replacement).
Will keep you updated....
Damn!
I am sure the vendor will replace them. But its certainly not fun to run into problems with a brand new product.
