Since this guy have been named and shamed, and now off-loading them at $1750 a piece, fancy telling us what he paid for them, so that those of us interested will not pay his asking price?

Yep, sounds like misleading and deceptive conduct to me. Though I don't think you could 'legally' show him/her to be in the wrong.

I don't like the idea of the post count idea. It'll be a ver long time before I have that many posy but have know bought three items with positive feedback to no doubt be soon given for the Sextett's I just bought of riceboy. I think you just have to be carefull, who you buy off, there past dealing etc. As long as trade is allowed, there will always be people who figure out how to scam others. Sad but true.

Not too keen on the higher post count either, if it's bumped to 750 as some have suggested, at my current post rate, I won't be able to sell anything until 2011

I don't think increasing the post count, or asking for a very long membership term, for posting ads will improve anything. Dishonest, or just greedy people will always exist and they'll have the patience or the workarounds to be here and trying their tricks.

I contacted Lucky_star some days ago for a pair of HP-2 he had for sale. He was asking a high price, way over the price I saw a similar pair sold a few days before. Now I'm sure he had purchased Laurent's pair and was trying to sell it for a big profit. He tried to push a quick sale by talking about a supposed buyer who had offered even a higher price. I decided to pass, moreover he said he had sold them, but it was a lie since the cans are again for sale. Then he offered to me the HP-1 he's also selling. I asked for a few days to make my mind up and to expect the outcome of other deal I was considering. He seemed to agree but before that term passed, he posted his for sale ad. That's a lame attitude which created a lot of suspicion and that made me staying away from this guy.

I don't think it's a crime trying to buy things for a low price and selling them for a profit, it's how this market economy works, but I dislike people using the friendship and good vibes at this site to do so. The only thing I find questionable in the least is his using two different identities to buy and to sale gear. IMHO if that goes against HF rules, both his identities should be banned and his IP filtered.

Thanks to the OP for bringing this to the attention to the boards. Sometimes the mods are a bit quiet for my taste but everything seems to run smoothly so no complaints there. However, sometimes events like these move very fast. A post like this can be gold.

As a new member I'd say that I agree about some more restrictions for the FS thread. Since I'm new here I won't have much stuff to sell and even if I had some, HF should require a minimum of knowledge from the sellers to avoid misinformed selling.

And if the restrictions aren't put in place, I'll just make my own and not buying from people that either have a year old in HF or that a postcount over a hundread.*

*EDIT : should have said few hundreads

well. Let's say myself selling something and not knowing the exact condition of the item because I don't have enough knowledge yet.

One thing I always do is check a seller's posting history if they are new or just over 50-60ish posts...just to see if they are a real contributor or just an opportunist. I look for specious posts in disparate threads, one-liners, no real substance etc. It's certainly not foolproof, but it does give me a rough idea of what I may be dealing with.

I see... I don't think that has anything to do with being a member for 2 months or two years, nor having posted 1000+ crappy messages or just 10 knowledgeable ones.

I think it's good the forum tries to control scammers, but greed is something you can't help. IMHO it's buyer's responsibility to avoid being scammed and taking all the precautions before ordering a payment.

Wow! I go to bed and wake up to more BS like this. Grrrrr.

Thanks larryminator for discovering, investigating and bringing this to our attention. I haven't been here all that long but it seems like we have way too much of this kind of thing going on. Brings the whole community down.

When I first joined I thought the For Sale forum 50 posts/30 day rule was over the top. I now see that several people have been able to post in the for sale forum that don't even meet that minimum requirement. This seems like such an easy thing for the mods to check or block, yet the posts stay on the board. Not faulting the mods ... they have alot to police here with a crazy large membership. Noticed they are generally slow to react which is actually a good thing as it helps to ensure that the moderators aren't overreacting.

As to Waddragon/Lucky_Star and the others who abuse the rules and are either profiteering or scamming our membership, ban them! Our best defense is to alert the mods when we see something that doesn't seem right ... assuming that they will investigate and then actually do something as the situation warrants.

So no matter the posting requirements in the for sale forum, at the moment it looks pretty much unenforceable. Assuming the board can work on auto pilot though and restrict access to the board I would be in favor of restricting the ability to post items for sale to members with higher post counts and longevity....say 6 months and 100-150 posts. This would show the community that the new members wanted to participate and contribute to the community before they were allowed access to post an item for sale. All members should be allowed to purchase.

Restricting access to sell/post on the for sale forum isn't all that horrible for new members. My personal journey is probably not normal, but I've acquired 1/2 of my head-fi type gear from the for sale board. I have not needed to post an item for sale yet ... although I have responded to a couple of WTB. Waiting 6 months to post an item for sale wouldn't be the end of the world for a new member. Might actually help them to more carefully consider and investigate their purchases before buying.

Now that I have been here a bit longer I have come to appreciate this wonderful community. So I now understand the wisdom of restricting posting to the for sale forum. I only wish I had more to contribute to our discussions of headphones and etc.

It's somewhat amusing that in both his account's FS posts he types in exact the same way.
An unrelated third party that browses the FS forums a lot might've figured this one out too with some digging.

A+ for lack of morale, but F for effort.
