for fans of "the matrix", "lotr", "evil dead 2" and "the limey&qu
if you are a fan of "the matrix", "lord of the rings" or "the limey", go rent "pricilla queen of the desert". i guarantee you will never be able to look at agent smith or elron the same way again. i know i wont.
also, in case you were wondering what ever happened to the co-star in "evil dead 2", check this out (read the bio). it was quite a shock seeing him there--julia sometimes watches his show, and he has lost his mind.

dont forget Memento and LA Confidential, b/c Guy Pierce is in Priscilla too!!
actually, i really liked Priscilla. I saw it some time after the Matrix, maybe about 2 years ago. i thought it was pretty damn funny to see our favorite Agent, a skinny LA cop, and mr Stamp dressed up in drag...
if thats not your thing, dont spoil your images of these actors, b/c you wont forget it but really, it is a fun movie if youre open minded.

Isn't "pricilla queen of the desert" a gay cult classic?
I believe it also won an Oscar for something.

oh yeah, julia bought the dvd last week. it is one of the best movies i've seen in a while, the costumes have to be seen to be believed. also there are some great lines in it: "my dog's name is herpes. he's good when he heels."
i thought stamp stole the show. his lip-synching at the end was really something.

Yeah, I had a really hard time taking Elrond seriously because of his dodgy acting past! I mean, elves are meant to beautiful, yeah, but not in the drag queen style. Maybe they'll rewrite the third LOTR film to have Elrond in full costume during that final battle scene... those Australians/New Zealanders, you can never trust them!

Sigh....
So an actor can't take a good part, his past becomes dodgy because some guy in the theater might think he's gay?
And if he's gay, so what? What does this issue have to do with the acting? The issues are unrelated...
BTW - Gandalf is gay. Correction. Gandalf isn't gay of course. His sexuality doesn't come into play. However, Sir Ian McKellen is gay. Does this affect how you see Gandalf? How narrowminded if it does. :P
That's why it's called _acting_. The guy is playing a part. It's big acting to play a drag queen, that's a big reason to take the part right there.

plainsong,
i'm not sure where that rant was directed, but i have no problem with gay people. i live in a city with a huge gay culture, and have members of my immediate family and a friend who are openly gay.
also, you should know that someone who is a transvestite isn't automatically gay. most drag queens are, however--i even knew a drag queen and he was an okay guy, although some go over the top with their characterization of women.
yes i know ian mckellen is gay. so what? indeed. he kissed jimmy fallon on the lips on snl and it was hilarious. laurence olivier was gay. i still thought he was great as hamlet. it just doesn't matter.
and yes, i know they are acting. my respect for the actors--especially terence stamp--went up after seeing the movie. forgive me but i just thought it was funny seeing these "tough guys" all dressed up in drag. that's kind of the point of the movie, you know.

lol! man, the tolkien fans will burn the cinema down if they did that!! i've known a few kiwis and ozzies, they're an ok bunch if you keep them away from the lager.

Priscilla isn't just a gay classic, it's a classic piece of Australian cinema. I'd urge everyone to see it.

Well, yes
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior is the pinnacle of the series, I think. Also one of my favourite movies ever.
Some other Aussie movies any film buffs should look into:
Metal Skin
Malcolm
The Sum of Us
The Castle
Two Hands
Chopper
Australia has a far better signal to noise ratio than Hollywood as far as quality film goes, simply because there's less money here to throw at projects, and there's less promise of making money.

My rant was at Insanefred, that he can't watch an actor playing any other part ever since that actor was seen wearing a dress. If the actor was convincing - ain't that the point?
I probably shoulda quoted. The spirit of this thread was good fun until Insane's post. Maybe I read it wrong, but I was seeing some closed-mindedness.
I've heard that about drag queens, that many are straight men who like to dress up. I don't know from experience since I don't know any guys who like to dress up. I'm a girl that hates dressing up, so I can't see what the fun of it is. But hey, whatever floats yer boat. Not everyone is ment to be like everyone else.
Otherwise, I've always had a soft spot for people who were different from everyone else, which makes me more likely to jump up and defend a group I think is getting dumped on. The flame was directed at one post, and not the thread.
edit: Red, yeah we're agreeing here. Maybe I read Insane's post wrong, and if I did, I'm really sorry. I was only trying to fight the good fight.

Anyone who would consider Hugo Weaving's part in Priscilla "dodgy" really needs to open their mind a little and watch the film. It was an amazing piece of acting.
