Do you listen to your music or do you listen to your equipment?
A question to all head-fiers. Do you listen to your music or do you listen to your equipment?
I've come to the realization that my nightly listening sessions are more for A/B comparisons of equipment than for truly enjoying the music.
I listen to the same songs over and over through different combinations of equipment always searching for a difference in the way the music is presented.
So I guess I could be considered an equipment lover, rather than a music lover. Anyone else in this boat?

I find that it can be both, in a circular process. When you get new equipment, you listen to songs to A/B compare with your previous equipment. Once you're over this 'new gadget' phase, you start to listen to your music more, as your new equipment has become part of your audio family. However, every now and then, you come across a musical piece or album that really make you go 'WOW', and you once again appreciate the equipment you're using. Heck, at this point, you might even go back to A/Bing with your other equipment, or buy new equipment to A/B it with. This circle goes on and on...

there is something to be said for the journey being as important as the destination, but driving back and forth along the same stretch of road is less of a means to an end, and more of an affliction.
you can always take solace in the fact that you are not alone, though.

I listen to the music. Not the equipement. For me the equipement is a means to and end, and not an end in itself.

Neither. I don't bother to turn my system on. I just sit and stare and listen to the room. Usually it's pretty quiet but sometimes I can hear little ticks so that drives me nuts. Why even bother to listen to equipment or music if the room isn't perfect?

Thing is you have to spend a few bucks to get gear that slips away, leaving you with just the music. Once you're there, you can stop buying.

i listen to the music.
although i will listen to the same songs a lot. i just like them a lot is all haha. I love it when you have that song that just has vocals that pop out and send shivers down your spine. sort of like, hmmm, lithium by evanescence, man in the box by alice in chains, the kill by 30stm, and them some good ol submersed
nothin helps one sleep better than a song that can make your soul shiver.

I listen to music after listening to equipment which is suitable for my music  . So I listen to music first, then equipment, then music back again. God this is so confusing.

Both. I usually listen to music, but sometimes I listen to my equipment just to hear how good it sounds. Kind of like how I also run 3DMark just to see how good my computer is, instead of just playing games.

I do both, yes. I voted for the equipment though. When I listen to music, I tend to focus easily in music's technical abilities, from it it goes to the headphones, amplification and source. For example I enjoy it very much if the song has the correct kind of bass, the instrumental separation shows nicely or it's just otherwise well mastered. My rig being whatever it is, I try to find flaws from it, poundering what I should upgrade first.
So I should say equipment, but it's really always the sum of the two.
