Not the newest stuff, as it's tough for me to keep up on what's good nowadays, but I really liked:
FLCL - The Wonder Years as told by people who understand what it's like growing up in overstimulated with a hyperactive imagination. Stream of consciousness madness.
Kino's Journeys - Wow. It can be heavy, but it's really interesting. Really makes me want to travel.
Shin Getter Robo - Man this took me back. I remember growing up watching Force Five. I think Getter Robo was renamed Starvengers. I love how dark and intense Shin Getter Robo is. I really love the manga style line work and the melodrama.

Love that show. 6 episodes could never do it justice. I feel the same way with every other good anime that ended after ~13 or ~26. Some shows are just so good that you want to see more, and I feel that way with FLCL.

So far, Full Metal Panic The 2nd Raid is living up to the expectations and beyond. Sagara and Co. may even move from a flat to round characters, which is quite a surprise. The first two season were first class popcorn entertainment. I hope the 3rd season will go a bit further and it looks rather promising at the moment. Some bummers, however, still remain such as the rather unconvincing antagonists. Animation is top notch and the budget for this series must have been quite high, which is not surprising given the huge fanbase. The animation is not quite in the league of the more expensive Sunrise productions but better than most of the anime world. Highly recommended if you like shounen/mecha/comedy type of anime.
Another promising one is Eureka Seven. I've only watched a couple of episodes but it looks very good so far. Top notch animation. Overall theme is Mecha and the synopsis reads like another Gunparade March, Rahxephon, Evangelion, etc. Well, I don't mind at all even if Mechas supposedly represent subconsioucly sublimated libido. I don't really care since they're cool to watch. And for a change, the main character is not your typical suicidal Shinji but more of a Shounen-anime type "I want to get cooler" type of a young kid. I can only emphasise again how great the animation quality is. Background music is pretty good, too. Drawbacks are the usual "I want to find proove myself", father complexes, "I want to protect", "I won't run away", sudden bursts of power through "belief", etc. -issues but they are well-implemented. Probably aimed at the middle/high school audience. In any case, this could turn out to be one of the better animes in 2005. Not an instant classic like Rahxephon or Evangelion but very entertaining nonetheless.
Initial D 4th Stage is still being fansubbed. Not a great anime by all means, actually rather average to be honest but the OST is very good and I've grown attached to the characters over the time of 3 seasons. The character drawing style is still horrible. I usually skip the human interaction scenes and go straight to the races. Not recommended if you're new to the Initial D series.
There seems to be a couple of new Shounen animes like Bleach or old ones that keep airing like Naruto but I prefer the mangas. They are more advanced in storyline, too.
I've been watching a bit of honey and clover, which I believe was mentioned a while back. A good change of pace from the Shield binge I've been on. Watched all four seasons of that in about 2 weeks. H&C is nice. Interesting, I found a bottle of Clover Honey in my cupboard today...I'm serious!
Oh yeah, don't ever read the ID manga. It insults your intelligence. I think the writing was intended for children under the age of 7.

Another one I just started watching is Fantastic Children (2004) by demi-god Nakamura Takashi (chief animator in Akira, Nausicaä, Macross: Remember Love). This could turn out to be a really good one with depth and all that. Review here.

Yeah, the english name is Honey & Clover. Sorry I didn't capitalize it the first time. What I found in my cupboard was Clover Honey
The Shield isn't anime, sorry. I vote it best tv series I am currently aware of.
Are there torrents available for fantastic children? Who subs it?
Escaflowne is an anime fantasy classic. Gotta have it under your belt.
