Scrapped Princess gets much more interesting and beats Lodoss as far as I'm concerned. Lodoss was disappointing.

I believe it's Captain Harlock. The whole thing is based on Wagner.

12k has a nice soundtrack. I did get extremely tired of the middle arc which was utterly dreadful and stopped watching it.

Cool, I'll look forward to the rest.

Yeah, for some weird reason they decided to call him "Herlock" in R1 so I stuck with that.

Yep, I own 5 of the soundtrack CDs! Yeah, the 2nd arc was a little lacking compared to the 1st and 3rd, and since it looks like the anime is finished it will never get resolved.

Ah, enjoyable anime for me? Well, since the only real outlet I've got is Adult Swim, I'd have to say Cowboy Bebop and the movie Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Fooly Cooly(FLCL), Big O, Wolf's Rain, and most recently, Samurai Champloo. That show looks to be just as breathtaking as Cowboy Bebop was, the music, the style, the interactions, the plots, everything about that show shines to me.

I'm only gonna mention shows that I'm enjoying right now and currently airing or something I've recently watched in the past semester.

Honey & Clover: another shoujo, piece of life anime...but REALLY funny. Takes place at a Japanese University that focuses mainly on art. Story is basically all character development on a group of college kids, a professor that hangs out with them way too much, and his adorable little niece. Subbed up to episode 6 by Solar.

Futakoi Alternative: a spinoff show based on the regular "Futakoi" TV series that was way too kiddy and sappy. Pretty much involves groups of twin sisters....ALOT of groups and of course...one guy. Alternative on the other hand...is VERY sporatic and random and quite frankly, an acquired taste. It's nothing like the sappy show it was spun-off of, but concentrates mostly on just one pair of the twins and a new lead, male character. It's funny..and I can honestly only recommend it to those who REALLY enjoy anime. FLCL fans might like the style of the show...ESPECIALLY the first episode. Subbed up to eps 6 by Anime-Yuki

Kore ga Goshiyujin-sama (He is My Master): Gainax + SHAFT's most recent work. If you've seen Mahoromatic, this show will feel right at home, except it's FUNNIER and much much much much MORE INSANE. That's all I really can say about this...without making this show sound like the most perverted thing in the world ). subbed up to eps 4 by Ayu-r0ri.

Eyeshield 21: based on a pretty popular Shonen JUMP manga...an AMERICAN football anime. So this little scrawny kid just gets into high school and was always bullied. However, cuz of the consistent bullying, he developed into the fastest runner in Japan. Unfortunately for him, the school football captain discovered him and kinda forced him on the team. I thought it was going to be stupid as hell, but it's somewhat enjoyable...as long as you can sit through sports anime. Subbed up to eps 7 by Saizen.

Gankutsuou: This is pretty much a reinterpretation of "The Count of Monte Cristo," and shows the dark side of revenge. Art style is VERY unique, think a wild acid trip..and you kinda get the idea. The setting is futuristic, but somehow Parisan aristocracy re-emerges. I thought it'd be boring and stupid at first since it was based on a well known story...but man was I surprised. Definitely one of my top 15 favorite anime series of all time. Well worth the time. Subbed by Anime-Kraze and Anime-Keep (get Kraze's).

there's many others i'd recommend such as Bleach, Yakitate JAPAN!, Ah! My Goddess TV, One Piece, Gundam Seed Destiny, but these shows are looong and are pretty well-established. Not worth my time on writing little paragraphs on things with ridiculous amounts of fans .

Gankutsuou is cool but I can't decide between whether the art is interesting or lazy.

I could have sworn that the R1 of Harlock was...Harlock. It's been a while though.

Childish but fun:

Naruto: Ninja's with tricks

Shaman King: About a contest between shamans, includes spirits super tricks etc.

Full metal alchemist: My favourite (55 episodes i think). About an alternative world where alchemists are the "law-force". They can convert anything into anything (as long as nothing is lost or generated).

Bleach: Watch it yourself

More mature, realistic plot, deep ideas:

Monster: A doctor saves a child from a shot wound in the head, the child becomes a murderer. The doctor decides to find the child (who seems to be evil itself) and kill it. The story is situated in after the breaking of the Berlin wall, Germany.

Some of my favourite are:

Rourouni Kenshin(****1/2): Excellent samurai series with a mix of suspense, romance and comedy. The animation is great and the fight scenes are pretty good.

Full metal Alchemist(****3/4): Wicked show with an extremely interesting plot that was written by Square Enix. It gives you the feeling as if you're playing through an RPG with lots of twist and turns.

Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny(****): The best mecha series so far imo with an nice plot on war and prejudice.

Bleach(****): A unique show that mixes modern day life with samurai style. Also very funny and the animation is great.

Initial D(****1/4): If you love to drive, this is the series for you. One of the most addictive shows, you just can't stop watching until you realized your eyes got blurry and your head spinning and about to pass out. Great music to boot.

I'll separate my list into two groups. The first has all the series currently being subbed I'm watching or recently finished. The second has whatever dvds a friend of mine and I are currently watching on our weekly anime night (selected by what we think might be good and random coin flips).

Subbed:
- My-HiME (4.5/5) : Really great series! First half feels more magical girl-ish, though more well-done than usual, and focuses on comedy, character background/motivations, and monster-of-the-week. Characters tend to act more realistic and feel more natural, for a change. Second half... wow. HUGE change in tone, surprising drama everywhere, really well-done. This would've been a 5, but I didn't care for the way they chose to end it (acceptable and conclusive, but could've been much more satisfying). Also has very good music. Highly recommended.

- Bleach (4.5/5) : Another really great series I assume most people have heard of already. Suffice to say it's got great balance (comedy, drama, action) and I see loads of potential. Watched all the anime so far subbed, haven't read the manga.

- One Piece (4.5/5) : Same as for Bleach, though it's heavier on action/comedy, w/ just enough drama to keep the plot going. Also haven't read the manga.

- Naruto (4.25/5) : Same as for Bleach, though it's heavier on action/drama, w/ some comedy in appropriate places. Sometimes the pacing will seem a bit slow, mainly in the worse-than-usual filler episodes. Again, haven't read the manga.

- Honey & Clover (?/5) : Kinda interesting slice-of-life show w/ some comedy. Only seen three eps so far, so too early to give a rating. Has potential, but the niece must be a midget or something.

- Tsukuyomi (2.5/5) : Vampiric cat-girl, main character w/ a backbone, and funny chibi-shinigami = good, but the story has been pretty lacking and generic. Has its moments, but they're not frequent enough, especially since new subbed episodes appear once in a blue moon, pardon the pun.

DVDs:
- Brigadoon (3.25/5) : Kinda weird show dealing w/ two worlds being somehow forced together, Brigadoon and Earth... seen a few discs. Monsters of the week and allies, well they're odd in a comedic sense, but not all that cool. Took a turn for the serious in dealing w/ some real-life types of issues normally not emphasized. Nice opening theme. Lolo is very amusing so far, the Trigun cat has nothing on Lolo.

- Card Captor Sakura (4.5/5) : If I wanted to hope somebody would like the magical girl genre off of just one show, I'd pick this one to show them. Great series, consistently funny and heart-warming. The card-monsters are fairly simple, but they're usually stylish enough. Only people I wouldn't recommend it to are people that automatically hate any cute things.

- Love Hina (2/5) : I have nothing against harem shows in general (ex. I really enjoy Ranma 1/2), but I really hate it when the spineless male lead is getting constantly punched into orbit, for absolutely no good reason, by the b****y female love interest. That alone knocks it down 2 points in my book. To be fair, it does have some decent comedy, though not enough, Mutsumi and Shinobu are decent, and some of the music is good.

- R.O.D. TV (4/5) : I've enjoyed the whole paper-master concept since Yomiko Readman in the OAV, and this just expands on it w/ much more action and drama. The villains are, thankfully, less silly than the OAV (I'm sorry, the final battle in the OAV was just stupid, in both opponent and execution).
