I know this may have been covered already, but for those who have had experience with either or both amps, which is better?
I'm looking for a Ebay cmoy and these two look pretty good to me. They both use the same chip, so I imagine the sound should be similar. What I really want to know is whether or not the Biosciencegeek is worth the extra cash. It looks like you get a little more customization with it. Also the dual gain switch looks very usable as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
In case you need to know, I am currently using Etymotic IEM's but plan to also get a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 880's very soon.
are u aware of the penguin amp caffeine ultra cmoy? i purchased that one and still waiting for it to arrive. from what i hear, its one of the higher cmoys. but yea, ebay..u can get it for about 71 dollars including shipping.
Biosciencegeek made my cmoy a couple years ago. Still works perfectly and is a little cheap "rugged" amp to lug around inpublic when idon't want to take my better Hornet or Portaphile. Great person to do business with too.
I have an amp from biosciencegeek, sounds and works pretty well, my only complaint is the way he laid out the plugs and the volume knob makes it impossible to put in my pocket
Can't comment on the juice2214, but i have a biosciencegeek amp. pros: It's well-built and is a big upgrade from the standard headphone jack on multimedia pc-systems i used before...it's good value for the price
cons: the dc-jack in my country it's difficult to get those, so i have to run from the battery - that's ok though cos another wire would complicate my life. a standard alkaline 9v lasts about a month for me.
the sound - somehow it doesn't seem quite balanced enough for me - seems quite bass-heavy. I bought a emu0202 a while ago and straight away i liked the quality of the headphone amp in there more - quite rich, full and plenty of spatialisation as opposed to the dull, flat headphone-outs from the multimedia speakers, but not as bass heavy as the biosciencegeek...i have mixed feelings about it - some tracks sound fine on it, but others...well, the balance seems a little strange - difficult to describe
