iBasso D1 or D10
hi im thinking of getting my first portable amp. I will be using it mainly with my umpc and out of a pk1 and sometimes a rs2. Im looking of portability but the size of the D1 does not really bother me. And sometimes I would like to use it with my dynalo. My question is witch one is better for me? And say for $150 is the D1 a better deal than the $275 D10? I am also know the opamp rolling changes things up abit so that gets me further confused on either the D10 or the D1.

i have no experience with the d1 but i can wholeheatedly recomend the D10 as it is a better sounding AMP/DAC overall from what i have read in this forum. it has many good features such as coax, optical and line out, can opamp roll and can be charged via usb. i use it to drive my re-cabled pk1's and stock opamps give the pk1 a punchy and sparkling sound - very open with a wide soundstage.

D10, no question; it wins in every area IMO. the amp section of the D1 is a weak point; not so with the D10

Does the D1 use a different DAC chip?

I have had the D1 since it came out 1½ years ago and had hiflights' chip set for it and when I got the D10 I naturally compared the two. Fed optically I was unable to tell any significant difference between the stock D10 and the D1 with hiflight chipset. Fed through usb the better dac section of the D10 was the winner. I didn't expect much difference either, I mainly bought the D10 for it's smaller size (only slightly more than 1/3 of the D1) and the longer battery lifes (almost twice as long).

I haven't got the D1 any longer and never really used the dac in usb mode so can't comment further but it seems fairly well established that the usb in was the weak point on the D1. For opamps you want to contact hiflight unless you are up to contacting manufaturers and doing some soldering.
