I must say that I believe the top end does calm down again after a while.... I haven''t kept any log or otherwise of how many hours mine have on them, but its a lot.... and now, I can have mine on at full volume with no problems
Hehe, if cn11 is the FX champion, I wonder what that makes me lol

I (finally) pulled the trigger
Well, thank you folks for giving me information which (partly) influenced my decision. I went with the Atrio (for now) it's long history of great reviews and the fact they are the "version 2" (perhaps any shortcomings have been addressed?) helped tilt the scale.
Thats not to say that I would not snap up a pair of FX500s from someone on here that wasn't completely in love with them. I know mice elf well enough to know "I will" own a pair of FX500s if not right away then maybe just a bit down the road.
This is a crazy money sucking hobby we have eh? Could be worse though, we could be crack addicts.....lol At least we get amzing enjoyment from our purchases. I know I do anyway. Peace everyone, I should grab a bite to eat.

I could have sworn that I read somewhere someone saying that these get more sibilant with burn in ... do they smooth out after further burn in? Perhaps they really need the recommended 200 hours?

I think it is a 4th or 5th gen iPod classic (I'm not sure, I lost count of all the iPod gens, but anyway its the 60gb one) ... however, I haven't really been using the iPod as I use a pink noise generator on my computer for burn in, so I have them plugged into my desk setup (DAC straight to starving student). Do you think the issue is related to my setup?

I hope it does calm down more. I think I probably have a little over 100 hours on them so far, so we'll see when it gets to more like 200ish. It's definitely a little better now than when out of the box.

Ok, I have 70 hours on these and the most noticeable improvement is bass detail ... amazing! Really liking the bass quality and how low it reaches. The harshness in the highs is only slightly better, hope it mellows out noticeably more with further burn in ... while the bass and instrument separation are top notch, if this harshness doesn't go away after 200 hours, I think I will have to part ways with the FX-500s ... I really hope this doesn't happen, though, because there is so much to like about these IEMs!

i never had the problem with harsh highs - i think it has to do with inner ear shape. mine are narrow so the foams or silicon pieces probably bunched up to create an efficient sibilance blocker.

shigzeo-
You are very fortunate to have natural built-in sibilance blockers!

I have the 80gb.... try this.. plug them straight into the Ipdo H/P out and put the EQ on "Loudness"... Pretty amazing straight out of H/P.. Your Ipod should have the Wofson DAC which is considered to be the best Ipod DAC so far. I know it's considered sacralige to use an EQ around these parts put I find that these Victors can really benefit from a touch of EQ.

Alright, I am not opposed to EQing, so I will definitely give that a shot some time today. Thanks for the tip.

I REALLY WANT THESE
I'm having a really hard time not buying a pair of these.
I just chose the Atrio M5 instead and am awaiting their arrival.
Had I not bought all that I did this month (amps, v-cap thingies, lods, iems etc) I'd own a pair (FX500)
Anyone wanting to sell, give me a shout. I am unable to use the FS section of this site for some reason. It comes back stating I am not authorized or something like that. Anyone know whats going on with that?

I think the FS section requires that you have at least 50 posts or something like that. Anyway, like I said, if the FX500 are not to my liking after 200 hours, I will definitely give you a shout.
@shigzeo I envy your natural sibilance blockers!
