Default "Jabada" canalphone nozzle extension mod

Thanks to a Head Fi'er named Jabada, we all have a very easy nozzle mod for the Triple fi-10s that works great and is done with a minimum of items. The purpose of this mod is to extend the nozzle of the canalphone further out so a sleeve/foam goes deeper into the ear for better seal and more secure fit. This mod, with minor adjustments, can be applied to any canalphone that might need a nozzle extension. The heat shrink might need changing depending on the size of the nozzle being extended.

Even though this mod is detailed in another thread, I wanted to start this thread with the mod so it can be easily accessed without having to go through the other posts in the thread. Having this mod at the beginning of the thread will be more convenient and make linking to it feasible.

Here's what you'll need. The drill is a 7/32 and the exact size of the Trip's nozzle:

This how it's done using the lighter as the heat source:

And here's how it looks once it has been cut to desired size:

These are added to show how versatile the mod is and show the different lengths and canalphones it can be used on. I start off with the needed heat shrink:

I use soap to coat the 7/32 drill so the heat shrink will slip off and not stick:

This is the partial shrinking and I'll add a couple shoulder pieces which are a smaller unshrunk size of heat shrink which I will put on the main shrunk pieces and shrink them to fit tightly:

And this is how it turns out:

These are all applications:

The extension fits tightly so you'll need to use some needle nose pliers to grab onto the end of the extension if you can't pinch it off with your fingers. Maybe biting it off is all you'll need to do.

Just cut the raw heatshrink tubing,,,the flat looking piece...to about 1 inch lengths. Put one piece of the cut heatshrink tubing over the drill about like what is shown in the picture with the shrunk heatshrink tubing. All you do is heat it with the flame of the lighter till it's fully shrunk. The particular size tubing won't shrink any smaller than the small end of the tubing in the picture with the drill.

For you younger folks, have your father or mother handle the lighter.

And make sure you heat the heatshrink ABOVE the flame, not in the flame, otherwise you will get some residue on it.

Those of us who have deeper ear canals can get a secure seal that will also isolate well and, in my case, with line the nozzle up with the ear canal for a straighter audio shot to the eardrum.

I assure you, it works and helps greatly.

"Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10" and "Mod" should never be in the same sentence

You need to tell that to Ultimate Ears, so they can pre-mod them to be suitable for those of us who have deep ear canals.
