I didn't like the E500 midrange, so I hope I hear the opposite

OHHH YEAAHH
Ok, I found a great tip option. Try the old reversal trick with the Shure black foam Olives.
**edit- not as comfortable to me as the provided bi-flanges. There is some minimal detail/bass gain, but not enough to warrant the waiting for compressed foam to expand and form the seal for each ear. As you can see in the image, they sit nicely down on the treble tube- but this makes it a bit tough to get them off sometimes. They pull the treble tube out of the earphone body, and then you have to work it out of the foamie.

Yeah, I'm considering gambling on a used set (thank you, head-fi!) for about half that price. The "gamble" being in their questionable build quality, with a couple reports of left drivers dying. Chances are I'll still go for it. But anyways...SA6! Sleek, huh?

Thanks. I woudln't want the Sonicap (similar to V-caps) iMod + good amp to be overkill for the SA6, which is why I was asking. Finding a IEM worth the iMod cost is the only reason for I want to upgrade, right now.

Okay, I'll give it a whirl when the SA6s arrive. Where the hell is that Fedex person? It says delivery by 7 p.m., and it's 1:30 already!!!
Edit: So Chris, now the reverse olive is not so hot?

I used them unamped from my Sony NW-A808 and while there was no problem with the volume or bass or anything, I found the midrange to be decidedly lacking. I found the vocals distant and 'high' up, like a separate entity altogether. I never heard the smoothness people talk about, or how 'upfront' it was, I just didn't experience that with the midrange at all.
I found the level of detail was fine, but it was too far away. I know I'm not the only to hear it like that, and while I appreciate they probably sound quite different with other sources etc, I'm just describing what I heard with my Sony. It will be interesting for me to see if the SA6 sound different with the Sony than it does with the Zune.
I know the Image sounds different with each one.
EDIT: 'Ghostly' was how I found the E500 midrange. That word just popped up while I was thinking about it

I'm not saying the mids are perfect on the E500's but that does seem a bit odd, maybe a tip or amping problem.
One thing about the SA6's, from my understanding they have a fairly stable impedance curve which I expect will mean there wouldn't be as much discrepancy in balance between amps as there can be with some other phones. In other words, I expect a better amp will just increase the quality of what's already there.

I find this to be an interesting comment since I find the SA6 to be quite impressive in regards to soundstage. I don't have any experience with the UE11s so I can't comment but compared to my C700s and M5s, the SA6 offer quite a bit of breadth to my ears. They sound more like headphones than IEMs.

Well, it's now 4 p.m. here, and the UPS guy delivered the Wii (for my in-laws. My wife paid way too much for it on ebay), but no Fedex truck in sight. Where I live, Fedex Ground seems to be less reliable than UPS. Oh well, they have three more hours, or it's going to be Monday. When I told the UPS guy another set of headphones was on the way (a running joke), he left looking stunned. He usually delivers the headphones. In fact, I've already given him every set of stock ear buds that came with all my Creative DAPS and notebook computers (yes, HP now packages ear buds with their notebooks). He has a lot of kids, he says.

I looked at you sig and realized I meant Ibasso P2, not the D2. The P2 and a UE11 are not friends You are much better off with probably anything other than the UE11.
Today I swapped back to the bi-flanges from the small grey Shure tips. The whole port and tip thing could drive you crazy I think ultimately I will stay with the bi-flanges, the SA6 with the grey tips loses some of the fun energy it has with the bi-flanges.

The SA6 has a nearly flat 50ohm resistance accross the entire spectrum with little to no fluctuation. This will let you use your rig and still maintain the sound signiture we were looking for.

Either you're busy listening to them right now or they haven't come yet. Which one is it?
