My LOD cost $80 and I use it with my higher-quality amp, the MiniboxE+. So not much help there. Just use the mini to mini first and see what you think.

tstarn06, I also have a touch. Do you think these need an amp with it?

Need an amp, no. But with a little boost from an inexpensive amp, it makes the PFEs a little more robust, for lack of a better term. I just listened to the Touch, PFEs with gray filters, Comply tips, no EQ, and the FiiO E3 hooked up, and it gives the PFEs just a little more juice, and even makes the sound a little fuller (a touch more bass). Right now, I have the E3, the PFEs and the Sansa Clip working together, and again, a little better than without an amp. Sloop John B never sounded so good. Some people scoff at the FiiO amps, but for what they cost, I think they are a nice way to round off a phone like the PFEs. Just my opinion, of course.
Anyway, no you don't need an amp, but for $8 or $20, worth adding.
Of course, the Touch with an LOD and a quality amp really brings the PFEs to the next level. But I have easy to please ears it seems, so even the cheaper amps make a difference to me.

Once i recover from the purchase of the 'phones themselves I'll probably be building a few cmoys, mostly for some friends. However, the built in rechargable in the E5 looks very attractive, along with the sheer portability of an amp that size. I probably wouldn't use an amp portably if it was any bigger than that. USB charging is another plus.

Can anyone compare these with the Livewires? After waiting two months I just received my LWs and so far I'm not terribly impressed. I'm burning them in now but I'm seriously considering ordering a set of the PFEs to compare them to.
The only other thing I have at the moment is an old set of Shure E2Cs, which are sadly giving the LWs a run for their money.

That's not saying much for the LW.

I'll post more on the LW thread but I'm having some problems with the fit in my right ear which could be contributing to the weak performance. The LWs so far are very bright. Great highs but they are lacking in the bass department. I'm not giving up on them yet but I wouldn't mind having something better to compare them with.
Has anyone taken advantage of the 14-day return policy on the PFEs?

That is a site policy against review stealing. Basicly it includes some thinks about we are talking here and some my personal impressions. And a recommendation of phonak offcourse.

Yes! Go for it. You could be the first to test the return policy.lol
You might be hearing that weak bass due to that poor fit, at least that has always been my experience.
I've never owned the E2/E2C but I did own the E4Pro, sold them and replaced them with ety ER6...which I feel are better in treble detail. E4 had more bass and better mids but once I EQ'd the ER6 they surpassed the E4 in overall performance for me.
