That'll teach him to make an impulse buy without fully researching... Uh. Ahem. Nevermind.

Now that's comedy. I would love to add up all the "losses" I've experienced in buying and reselling phones since I found this God-forsaken website. I also would love it if my wife never saw that number. On the other hand, I have no one to blame but myself. I consider it "table stakes" for finding the best phones for the money. So anyone stumbling on these threads today is going to benefit from all my missteps, right?
Wrong! After all, there are those new Klipsch phones coming out...yada, yada, yada.
On the upside, at least you can recover in some financial way since reselling works with phones. Better than just junking stuff or having to practically give it away, as is the case with old DVD players, VCRs, TVs, desktop computers, etc.

Just checked, and Amazon still has the black Denons for $132, but the silver ones are $37 more expensive. Makes no sense to me.

Hehe...I impulse bought the PK1's which sound awesome...but only in quiet areas.
Thanks for your reply, Warrior, but as tstarn said, I'll have to find out for myself. I'm living in England now and while it's nice (it's freezing cold, there's never any sun, it's always rainy, hehe...) there just aren't any places I know of that have these phones to test out.
But isn't it what the audio game is all about, trial and (pricey) error?

I thought the Westone 3 was supposedly going to be $299 just like the Klipsch 3-driver too. Or has the price gone up for the Westone 3? It sounds like the Klipsch and Westone will be very similar.

I only meant so far I haven't spent more than $160 (for the Etys I sold), and won't go higher. Just can believe a leap to $299 is going to be worth it. Could be wrong, of course, but not going to find out (not unless something big happens financially speaking, which is always a possibility). So maybe the UM3s are going to be $299, along with the Klipsch, but I am stuck at the $130-$140 price point, and for that money, we're good, no?

Did you just buy the PK1s after reading my posts or did you own them before? Either way, they are great, no? I only wish they could get the PK1 ear bud SQ into a canalphone or IEM, without having to use an amp, too.

Karma - whereabouts in England are you? If you're close to London/Surrey you can try my ones out.

EDIT: Mine too - although I was interested in them months ago when the thread began. But I didn't like the Westone UM2 sound signature at all, I thought it was 'crude'. After I sold them, my curiosity about the Westone 3's waned pretty fast!

I paid the full $199 at a local store in July because I fell in love with them right there, and they were so new that I didn't think there would be online deals yet. (I didn't know they came out in Feb 07).
Also, I don't feel that they completely "soften the thump because they are slow". Even using Shure Orange Foam tips I played some drum solo's and they hit almost as quickly as my other IEM with balanced armatures. Previously I had spent a lot of time listening to one track in particular for a buyer right before I sold my SE310 and had compaired them back then (Tord Gustavsen Trio, Being There album, Track 7 "Karmosin"), and they seemed to be close to the SE310 in speed, with a little more amplitude.
I tried them again this morning vs my E500 now that I don't have the SE310's to compare to, and they Denon are just as good as I remember; but while they could beat the SE310 in a lot of things I feel the E500 still stomp the Denon. The C700 still hold up very well vs the new competition with the hit of the bass drum and string bass, although the E500 do have more of everything (speed, punch, thump, depth).
I put on some electronic music with synth bass (Jean-Michel Jarre, MTV music maker trance music), and the C700 give me all the bass impact I need but again, the E500 hit harder and feel more visceral, while the C700 are certainly not lacking. They C700 go quite low with synth bass, certainly below 32hz. Again, this is with Shure Orange Foamies.
The Denon silicon tips speeds up the bass a little, but I am not taking them off now to try that again because I always detroy the orange foamies trying to get them off.
HERE IS ANOTHER EYE OPENER - MY 3G IPOD NANO KICKS BUTT ON THE MACBOOK FOR ITUNES SOUND QUALITY, INCLUDING BASS IMPACT. OMG!!! I can't stand the Macbook without my iBasso D1 DAC/AMP anymore - using the macbook and itunes as a source makes the C700 sound like poooo So, make sure you have a good source before you complain about the headphones.

Can you provide us an head to head comparison between the C700 an E500? In which regards do you think that the latter stomps the Denon? I'm asking, because I found the Shures limited in many regards.
