I can get them cheap here - less then 80 euro (unlike the c751 which are a little expensive here - about 200 euro shipping included) and will be glad to try them if they really sound that good or similar enough.
The C551 would make an excellent backup for work. If you can get them cheaply, then go for it. If I'd never heard the C700/751, I'd have been happy with the C551. The bass is good. I actually prefer the C551 bass. It's well defined and tight, but 'louder' than the mids and treble. You can sort that out with EQ, whereas I have no EQ on the Zune. Honestly, if you're just looking for a pair for work, you really can't go wrong with the C551s. They were my own backup till the b/f took a shine to them! They are very similar in sound, the differences are mainly bass and treble (like I described in an earlier post), just the C700/751s are a little smoother and more refined, but for work, you'll hardly notice the difference.

Thats good news. I don't use eq with denons which are the only cans that i don't need to adjust but when i use my ipod sometimes i really need a little bass boost for some genres (on my x-fi at home they sound perfect all the time with all effects off). These will be great supplement then. Thanks.

PS: i have only tried shure e500 and etymotic er6i of the armature design in ears, and i don't like them....especially for bass part. Since you've tried more models than me and have similar taste/ears could you recommend me some good armature driver in-ears just to try them for curiosity?

The C551 sound much better than the CX500. More punch, more bass. The CX500 is quite bright in comparison. My b/f rejected the CX500 I bought for him in favour of my C551s, so he preferred them to.

I don't know if you're asking if the CX500 tips fit the Denons, but yes, they do.

The bass is not boomy at all, it's very tight and punchy (more so than the C700s), but I'd rather sacrifice a bit of bass impact for the C700's extraordinary treble twinkle. It floors me all the time.

But... if you're at all sensitive to treble, get the C551s. Less treble, bigger bass impact - C700s, better treble quality and detail, bass is not as tight, but it's still incredibly satisfying. You really can't go wrong with either one of them in my opinion. And the C751 is only $129 as Amazon.com, that's fantastic value... plus you get a case and extension cable. . . .yayyyyy!
Thanks for your help soozieq. Good to know the bass is similar between the two then. I presume that the C700s bass is only a very small bit less tight (considering that it is the more expensive 'phone, it will not be a huge amount worse)?

I will go for the C700s anyway, I think.

For me, it depends on the songs, C700 can deliver a very tight bass or boomy bass or the ear shaking bass. I don't think the C700 has less tight bass than C551, maybe just less pronounced same with C551 high is less pronounced than C700, but it's still there. Btw, i got both C700 and C551. So far the C551 lives to my expectation, can't wait till it's totally burned in.

I fancied some new IEM's for the gym with my iPod 3G Nano and after reading the last couple of nights on here and seeing this thread over and over again I've just ordered the Denon AH-C700 silver from Amazon.co.uk for 68 pounds which seems the best UK price around - should have them on Saturday, thanks for all the info.

Amazon are offering them for £70 and Photoland (who are also selling them on Amazon UK) are selling them for £168! What a gigantic rip off!! And £70 is a good deal. When I got them last August, they were retailing in the UK for £149. Really expensive considering they were on sale at Amazon.com for the equivalent of £50 recently!

Hmmm. The tips go on, but I like them to not pull off too easily - makes me fear the tip will stay in my ear. When I had a Westone UM56 custom tip break off my SE530 in my ear, I wasn't very happy with something in my ear that was not supposed to be there.

As for Denon C700 sound impressions - I bought mine in June or July 07, paid retail at a local shop, and still have them, so that says a lot if you look at all the ones I've sold in my profile. They have a little more bass than my previous SE310, and are a little warmer and more forward the way I like them, while not being dull up top.

Plus, I picked these so I could have an IEM (more of a canal phone) that didn't isolate so much that it would leave me feeling like I was in a vacuum while walking down the street. I already had several noise blocking IEM, and needed some that were a little less, so I could hear cars, and horns, or my wife call for dinner (maybe).
