Newbie Question: High-end IEM sound vs. full size can sound...

I was thinking of purchasing the Shure SE530s (nicely discounted now, 3 drivers). But then I wondered if the SR60s by Grado (or a different can) would sound better at a fraction of the price.

I'm thinking in terms of an IPOD with Apple Lossless music and possibly a line-out with portable headphone amp (Emmerline SR-71?).

I assumed the 530s would sound better but was wondering if full size more than offsets well made but miniature components. I realize IEMs have a sound blocking advantage and, of course, a portability advantage. But just in terms of sound?
