the HF5 appears to be the same specs as the HF2 for iPhone users but without the microphone for iPod users.

Neat. It looks like a verson of the ER-4P that wasn't designed by a blind person. I'm certainly intrigued.

Has anyone seen these for sale anywhere? I can't see them on Etymotic's website (maybe I'm blind) and the only place I can see them is on Amazon, where the product description says "Developed exclusively for Amazon". I hope that's not the case.

I agree they look great, any news on the cable length? 5 ft is just too long for an IEM.

Apologies for the bump, but I suppose nobody has any idea when these might be available from somewhere other than Amazon? Amazon don't ship them internationally, unfortunately, and they're not listed on Etymotic's website (and I've received no reply to the emails I've sent asking about them).
I'm also interested in hearing any comments from anyone who has tried the HF5s, particularly versus the SA6 or q-jays.

I have the HF2 and it sounds a lot like the Altec iM-716. That isn't a bad thing because the iM-716 is an outstanding sounding canalphone.

If they lightened and shortened the cable and put the resistors inside the driver housings rather than the "pod," then these will be a definite improvement over the ER-4P.
The only thing I dislike is with the cable stems repositioned, they likely cannot be put in nearly as deep as the current ER-4P, which makes Shure olives unusable, at least for me. The mediums are too small to be used shallowly and the larges are too big to fit.
It's OK as I'm going to the new UE IEMs for now anyway.

Funny that you should mention the concern about how the HF2s fit because they do have issues with the location of the cord guard. I try to use the Complys with them but neither the long nor short Complys work very well with these HF2s. There is a bit of a struggle to make the long Complys work effectively.

The 16 ohms spec does not excite me. I read some reviews on Amazon from people that already owned ER4P and they said the HF5 is clearly a step down.
