Need headphones for ipod/keyboard/computer
Thanks in advance to whoever helps my needs because I really know very little about headphones. I tried to use the search feature to find what I was looking for but it was difficult to track down exactly what I needed and figured asking those who know what different headphones sound like was the way to go.
So basically what I'm looking for is a set of headphones for my ipod, keyboard, and macbook pro. I want them to be portable, but I also prefer the style of the over ear headphones. I want to hear some good bass as I enjoy rap music but I don't want bass too emphasized where I wouldn't be able to hear the highs and lows of rock/punk/pop. I'd really love a set that I'd hear all the percussions, guitars and bass of rock equally and of good quality. I'm also learning to play the keyboard and trying to tune my ears to hear the right sounds/pitches and would like the headphones to work well with this also. My budget can fluctuate between 50-300 depending on how much difference there is between the headphones. If you don't think that I'd really even notice a huge difference between the sound quality, I'd prefer to keep on the low end but I'm definately checking out used headphones in order to get a better price on higher end phones. Thanks again.
Edit: What I have been looking at are the Sony MDR V600 and the AD700's, but I'm not really sure if I'm on the right track and whether or not these are mostly used for DJ's or sound recording.

Welcome to Head-Fi.
Word of advice: don't ever say that your budget is flexible on these forums or you will end up with $1300 worth of audio equips.

Well if you want the phones to be portable, that certainly rules out the AD700s. They are honkin' huge. They are also open, which means they will not isolate you from outside noise on the go and people will hear what you're listening to in quiet places. Are you willing to consider open headphones for portable use or do you plan to wear them on the bus/subway/library etc?
Also, the MDR V600 is not a very popular choice around here. People have reported distortion at the lower end as well as poor build quality. Look at the MDR V6 instead.

Haha, if only I had $1300. IF the AD700's are that huge, its probably not the way I'd go and I also think I'd like to stick away from open phones. I'd be using them mostly walking in between classes, at the library, and in places where I'd want to keep my music to myself. I checked out the MDR V-6 the other day in the local Sony store and they were awesome. I kind of figured that the 600's were very similar, but if people feel differently I'll steer clear. The only downside I saw with the MDR V-6 was that its cord was the coiled one that looked like it could stretch 100 feet. Since my ipod is only a couple feet away and the keyboard and computer are the same distance, I didn't want to deal with a really long cord when I was wearing them around.

Indeed, the V6/7506 are not meant for portable use, hence the coiled cord. If you're looking for something with portability there are better choices, such as the AudioTechnica Ath-Es7 (which are on-ear, not over-ear). You could always get two pairs: one on the go and one for home use. I've found the Senn PX100s pretty nice as daily portable on-ears with something far less portable at home (JVC Ha-Rx700 in my case).
