Pilots can always keep a few sets of cheaper non-iem headsets around in case.

Look at what happened within a month ago when a pilot died right after take off and luckily one of the passengers was a pilot too. However, if the pilot used a custom IEM headset, then I would imagine it would have been an even more difficult task for the passenger to communicate with the control tower to listen to their guidance to land the plane. I am aware of all the advantages of custom IEM (even for pilots), but this 1 single problem may be far more important though. I guess if the pilot(s) include a non-custom headset on-board then it will be okay. Anyway, I just wanted to throw this out there.
I don't really know anything about aviation, but I suspect these customs are aimed at hobbyists. Commercial airline pilots probably wouldn't be using these.

I think those custom headsets are "bring-your-own-gear", instead of company's supplies.

I see velogreg is thinking the same way as I: CANJAM LA! I love my UE11s, and it is big news that the designer is making new creations.

Commercial airline pilots obviously would not use these customs, and they have co-pilots as well--so, the co-pilot can take over if anything should happen to the pilot. The point is that hobbyists, etc., do take people along for a ride and this is where customs could be a serious problem. Now, one may argue that the chances of survival is going to be very low anyway. However, custom iem headsets will lower the chances even more. And there had been cases where the pilots of small planes suffered from heart attacks, etc., and the passengers (with little to no piloting experience) were able to land the planes because they were able to communicate clearly with the control towers. Having non-custom headsets on board as spares will work but still not as good as just using non-custom headsets in the first place though. My point is that custom made equipment is not great for every situation, and sometimes the trade off is just too much.

Custom IEMs for personal enjoyment of music on the other hand is a different story. I want a pair for sure!

Thanks Jude for the news. Back when I bought my UE-10 Jerry really went to great length to ensure my complete satisfaction. I'll keep an eye on this new company and its products.

I think that generally any plane with an intercom is going to have at least 2 headsets (unless the owner is really cheap) so that the pilot and passenger can communicate freely.

I didn't plan on participating in this thread, I have been VERY happy with my UE11's for the last 18+ months. Still, I was curious so I sent Jerry an email, mentioning I was happy with the UE11's,wondering what he had to say about his new offerings. Here's his reply:

"Thank you for the interest in the JH Audio IEM's.

We re working on the website as we speak and will have more info in the near future online.

The JH13PRO is a more accurate earpiece than the 11. The 13 has much lower distortion, greater dynamic range and is more accurate especially in the low mid region.

We will be launching the 13 at Can Jam. If you are there come by and take a listen."

This sounds like it will be the best custom IEM yet. you can bet I'm now very interested!

Interesting news, and makes me wish I could go to CanJam. Would be very interested to hear how these compare to UE11 and ES3x.
