Default Help me out...gift

There is this girl I really like and I want to get her some portable headphones to run out of her ipod for her birthday.

I am wanting to spend up to about £40 (~$70). The portables have to be headphones, not in-ear. I want them to be simple and lean aesthetically, and not too big. Preferably fold-up, but not essential if the build quality is good enough to throw in a bag. Is there anything better than the Sennheiser PX200 that fits the bill?

How sweet...

Iirc, px200 is closed portable and the sound quality quite bad. Px100 should be better choice but it's open type.

Is there any other option beside this that sound good and within budget? I dont think so

Koss PortaPro is another good option in the same price range. Very similar to the PX100 in SS and it also folds but it folds into a ball instead of length-wise like the PX100. On the aesthetic side, it only looks better than the PX100 if you go for a superbly retro looking style. Unfortunately, they are also open and will not seal out sound during running.

Why not look at a cheap pair of IEMs? They are extremely portable, and you can find some with a good SS and good SQ without breaking the bank. The two pairs I'd be most familiar with are the JVC HA-FX33/34 and the JVC HA-FX66 otherwise known as the Marshmallow and the Air Cushions respectively. Both have differing, but good sound signature and quality for the price (The HA-FX66 is the more expensive of the two coming in at $30)

But the PortaPros are ugly, IMO. If you can go open, the PX100 is your best bet, probably.

The PX200s are terrible, for all sorts of reasons. If you must go for closed, small portables, I'd say AKG K414P. Your budget is a limiting factor here.

Does she not like in-ears?

Definitely have a look at the Panasonic RP-HTX7. It's probably the most stylish pair of headphones for around your price and some good things have been said about it; have a look at some old threads. One con is they're becoming ubiquitous over here, not sure about the UK?

Colours! You'll be able to find better prices than those.

I would just show up to her house with nothing but whipped cream on. If that doesn't work, white PX100 would work as well.

Another vote for the PX100's though black is a safer option just because the white just tends to advertise that an iPod is being worn.

I do like those Panasonic RP-HTX7's however and they are being advertised at £22 on ebay at the moment. Is the sound any good?

Andy

to the OP: how hot is she? Budget for gift generally varies depending on hotness.

i think those earphones with the pink stones are over doing it. shes prolly gonna think ur trying too hard. or just plain cheesy. what would she think? pink diamond looking stones on earphones? she might think to herself "who the hell wears these cheesy things?" im not saying she will act like this but what were not doing is choosing an iem/headphone for ourselves, but for someone else so we gotta think of something someone else would like.

AudioCubes.com - Portable, Casual

Why not make suggestions since you know so much about women. We are talking about someone who uses the stock iPod buds right?

"Budget for gift generally varies depending on hotness" <-- Exactly what women don't like.

haha! well she is VERY beautiful, but I am not basing the gift on that. This is very early days for us, and I want her to be able to enjoy the music out of her ipod more than with the stock ear-buds.

I was considering the PX200, but I see that people think in general that the PX100 is better because it's open I may go for that. What is the leakage like on the PX100, if she listens at reasonable volume levels on a train for example.

does anyone have any experience with the ATH-FC700?
