Default Electronica IEM for Zune?

I recently bought a 4GB Zune which came with the 'Zune premium headphones V2' which just sound awful, I can hear a slight hiss at lower listening volumes and when turned up they are rather bland. There's no bass it's all mids, the cable is woven fiber and is noisy to touch.

So anyway I was thinking of picking up a pair of iem for around $20, something like JVC marshmallows that I had previously which unfortunately my cat ate! I start cruising around this place which I haven't done in months.. big mistake! ..now I'm looking at monster turbines and the likes at over $150... I really don't want to spend that much but I do like the reviews I'm reading, what are my options?

What I'm looking for is something that does the likes of the prodigy, daft punk, ministry of sound.. all types of electronica with vocals but above all detailed bass. Can I get away with some cheap v-moda bass freq or will I be disappointed when compared with my D2000? Here's what I've gathered so far to be a good pick with my taste in music.

• Sound Magic PL11 Super Bass - $13
• V-MODA Bass Freq - $20
• Ultimate Ears MetroFi 200v - $25
• NuForce NE-7M - $40
• Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 EB - $144
• Monster Turbine - $150

Thoughts, suggestions?

I would stay far away from the Bass Freq as well as that particular Soundmagic model. Also, you really can'y compare the Turbines and Super.fi's to the other because of the price difference.

You may also want to add the Altec Lansing UHP336 ($35) to that list, since they are rebranded Super.fi 3's and have decent bass IMO.

Yes I have seen those and the UE 200v on sale for $25, I heard the ne-7m were better which is how those got on the list. Ideally I will be listening unamped or perhaps with one of those $10 mobile amps if necessary..

I guess it totally depends on the price you want to pay then. Because for $35 the Lansings are totally awesome and for $50 the nuforces are.

But of course the turbines would blow both away. The RE0's are also currently on sale for $99 and come with a Fiio E3 amp, but the bass is not too strong with those from what i've read.

My experience with the SF3 left me wanting more in the bass department FWIW. I don't really think they would satisfy for quantity, although quality was good.

Two other suggestions. JVC FX500 and Audio Technica CKS70. You will have to order them online though.

If what I hear about the JVC FX500 being like the TF10 is true, then that is your best bet. Sometimes I can't help but dancing in public with the TF10's.. if they are similar u are in luck.

in my memory the FX500 is even brighter than TF10pro, but i may be wrong as i don't have them together to effectively a/b them.

Alright I'll look up some reviews etc about the UHP336, at this point I think I do want to spend more.. REO's look good but good bass should be at the top of my listening preference. So no SF3s although I had SF5 EB on my list which is supposed to be overly bass heavy.

I am looking for the 'dancing in public' sound so I do like the sound of that, and wooden earphones... I like them already! If they are bright however I'm not interested.

Hmm... looking over my post from not 2 days ago and I'm already looking to spend more, thats head-fi for ya!

I'm looking now around the $100 mark upto say $150, I like what I've read about the Klipsch Custom 3s so naturaly the 'cheaper' Klipsch models look apealing.

• Klipsch Custom-2 - $80
• Klipsch IMAGE S4 - $80
• Monster Turbine - $120 ($85 used)
• Klipsch Custom 3 - $125
• JVC FX500 - $130 (Hard to find?)

What about the neutral Head-Direct RE0? I'm also looking into them and they seem to be pretty good for all genres. It's on sale this summer for $99, plus you get a free FiiO E3.

EDIT: I see the RE0 was already suggested. Well, it's up to you. I also listen to a lot of electronica, but I don't like the bass to be to strong, since I also listen to (Classic) Rock.

The cheaper Klipsch Models aren't really worth looking into. IMO, the RE0 easily beats everything on that list except the FX500, which is indeed a bit tough to find (and more expensive).

From what I have read the RE0 sounds like a portable version of say the Sony SA3000/5000 which I have owned in the past and found quite analytical and dull. Reading from antonyfirst's review which was linked directly on the head-direct website he says:

Bass: The bass of the RE0 is pretty linear

Midrange: The midrange is pretty flat to my ears, or a bit recessed

Treble: Treble is what I like most of the RE0. It's flat.

Conclusions: While not being the most exciting IEMs in existence, as they don't add anything to the sound, the RE0, are probably the most balanced IEMs I have owned.

I want a fun headphone! Something that works with 192kb files and doesn't require lossless.. thinking in terms of full size headphones, I'd like something along the lines of HD650 or DT770, a fun listen! plenty of color!

I guess we have to agree to disagree then. I'm an etymotic man myself.

Sounds to me like you're looking for the Bose IE's. I believe I've seen them described as coloring sound "like a retard with a crayon".
