Default This Is Not A Discussion Forum

Please stop with the in-thread discussions in the Gear For Sale / Trade forum. Any discussions within sale/trade threads should be related directly to the transaction, and nothing more or less.

If you're not interested in buying or trading the item(s) in the thread, then don't post. If you're wondering whether or not you should post a comment or opinion in a sale/trade thread, you probably should not. If you want to know why a person is selling something, PM (private message) or e-mail them. If you think a sale is crooked or smells funny, report it. If you think something is overpriced, do not buy it--but, also, do not post to say so in the thread either.

Thanks.

Default Good deal

If you think that the item for sale is an incredible deal for the money, can you say so?

Default An example of the problem...

...is a certain thread that is currently active in this forum.

It starts out with encouraging posts, and then a mini-discussion that results in one comment about the listed product being a love it or hate it product; and the other mentioning that the seller, like many, is selling it for something better.

Unless these comments are initiated by the seller, then it's likely the seller doesn't want them said within his sale thread, as those comments I mentioned are going to do anything but help the sale along. One hints that buying this product is a 50/50 shot at happiness. The other hints that owners of this product are turning to something better, which, within a sale thread, serves to devalue the product in that thread (in my opinion).

So to answer your question, CRESCENDOPOWER, I don't see the positive comments as a problem at all. But from now on, I will ask that the moderators delete any of the comments within sale/trade threads that in any way devalue the product up for sale/trade.

But thats why I shop here, you get a better feel for the product. If people want to sell things without feedback they could always use ebay.

Its really a shame you guys are going to implement this rule. It really helps out the newbie or if your kinda on the fence for a product.

Without feedback? Fer cryin' out loud, what do you think the rest of this place is for? Ask questions in any of the other forums; or, better yet, e-mail or PM the thread originator. But negative posts? Not within the sale/trade thread. If someone did that to my sale/trade thread, I'd be pretty pissed off.

I agree with Jude. Of course many of us will be selling something to trade up to something better. Someone might sell a V6 to buy a Beyer 250-80. That doesn't mean the V6 isn't worth buying, and it doesn't mean the seller has to throw the item away. If you don't want to buy it, then don't. But I think it's irresponsible to question the motives of the seller. The seller's motives and speculation on better products are better left for the buyer to determine.

This is nothing new; filling someone's "for sale" thread with crap is considered a major faux pas on high-volume trade boards like Anandtech...

IMHO, there are only 2 reasons that someone will post something for sale.

1. He/She is upgradeing to something better and has a perfectly, or nearly so, good item to sell at a decent price.

2. He/She has a financial problem and needs some cash.

Both are very legitimate reasons to sell.

I personally don't like Ety 'phones. Never even heard them, but I've got an ear problem and I'm not about to stick them in my ears. Does that give me the right to bad mouth them??? Personally, I DON'T THINK SO. Just one example.

I hate it when Jude's right.

I totally agree with Jude on this one. Thread crapping is a no-no in any for-sale forum I have ever seen. If you see a problem then email or PM the seller or if you see a more serious problem, contact a mod. I have had to bite my tongue (finger) more than once.

This thread is doing the complete opposite of what its supposed to... it is supposed to be a statement, but has ended up being a discussion anyway

The only thing that I can think of, which Jude can either condone, or refuse - is that if things get any worse, this forum and its posts are censored (moderated) before they are posted onto the main forum... hopefully things won't get like that... but, its an option

I dunno... if I put up, say, a Porta Corda for sale here now, would people be entitled to make some comments in the thread?

Comments are bad..........in the F/ S or T area.........agreed.

Any mod, please lock this thread.......what's the point of discussing a moot point? if the mods are going to be asked to delete the posts (as they should), i'm sure they will. Why belabor the point?

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, Joe, but if you're asking whether or not I want people to make comments in your sale thread, the answer is no. We're trying to discourage conversations within sale threads, as negative comments end up being made (often sort of inadvertently, just caught up in the conversation) that might possibly hurt the sale.

Again, comments specific to the transaction, like "YGM" or "YGPM" (you've got a private message) or "Is it still for sale?" are okay. Also, if someone is trying to reach the seller, but has been unable to through PM and e-mail, the thread is a good place to let the seller know that one has had difficulty contacting him.
