Kenwood KH-K1000 auditioned

Posted 03-09-2008 at 02:53 PM by Sasaki
Today I went to Fujiya avic store to pick my HFI780 up.
At the store, I found Kenwood KH-K1000 demo cans and I tried a short audition with the demo.

My first impression was this is HUGE. But it fits good and feel comfortable.

As for SQ, simply put I'd say this is for Jazz and Classical type cans.
Not heavy nor overly energetic overall, decent and well resolved. Soundstage...

AV-Festa and Victor FX500 IEM

Posted 02-24-2008 at 02:29 PM by Sasaki
Updated 02-24-2008 at 02:36 PM by Sasaki
We have several audio related exhibits in a year, one of them is this AV-fest. Mainly consist of domestic audio visual makers like SONY or Victor, as well as some small garage company.
Hence the show is not so oriented to highend audio systems, audio visual systems rather. such as large TV or theater systems.

At Victor, here is a demo of HP-FX500.

Wooden IEM Victor FX500 has delayed and possibly it would be released around the latter part of this month.

here is an early impressions on the AV watch website. (Japanese text)

http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/do...0201/np031.htm

Simply put, they expected a gentle sound of woods but the actual sound is energetic forward sound with good transient.
Two types of ear tip are comes with HP-FX500 and the sound is heavily depended on the ear tip....

Yabusame - Horse back archery

Posted 02-12-2008 at 01:07 PM by Sasaki
One of my photographic subject is Yabusame, that is a traditional horse back archery since the samurai era.
Click on the pictures to enlarge.

This past weekend, I went to take Yabusame pictures to Odawara. Odawara is famous for plum trees and this event is to celebrate the plum festival.
Archers wear traditional cloths and they ride a horse with archery. They are mostly veterans, some may young and few are female.

Snow falls ..

Posted 02-03-2008 at 12:49 PM by Sasaki
We had much snow over Tokyo area today. This is uncommon in these years. The area was covered with white veil in one day.
I took my camera and I went out to take white images of the winter.

This is a field museum to exhibits Japanese traditional houses. The house has been moved from all over Japan. This is the nice place...

Musica announced a balanced headphone amp

Posted 01-28-2008 at 01:35 PM by Sasaki
Updated 01-28-2008 at 01:51 PM by Sasaki
A Japanese audio manufacture Musica has announced a balanced headphone amp HP200B. I think this is the first balanced headphone amp which is made in Japan.

Musica is an amplifier manufacture and their home page is here.
Musica has been producing good headphone amps since three years ago. This early January, Musica has already announced their new line of headphone amps HPA1000 and HP200 , I guess the HP200B is balanced version of HP200(almost 90000 yen in street price)....

YAMAHA HP-1 come alive!

Posted 01-20-2008 at 01:15 PM by Sasaki
Updated 09-22-2008 at 02:43 PM by Sasaki
I have recabled one of my YAMAHA HP-1, I sent it to Alex of apuresound. here are the pics.
APureSound - Yamaha HP1 Portable Recable
His work is great as always.

I recabled it for portable use.
Yes, HP-1 is hard to drive as impedance is high and efficiency is quite low. But I use it with Xenos 1HA-EPC, it is so powerful.
Now, good old vintage comes alive !

Sound impression would follow later..
