Can Jam 2010 (2010 International Head-Fi Meet) In Chicago, Illinois, June 5-6, 2010!

Head-Fi search by Google.
I enjoy the discussion about gear as much as the next guy on this site. That said, to me, it's ALWAYS been about the music. So I thought I'd give a blog that's about the music a whirl and see how it goes.

My musical taste has been called everything from eclectic to wierd to all-over-the-map. As I type this, I've gone from listening to The Beatles' Rubber Soul (my favorite album of all time) to Babyshambles' latest, Shotter's Nation (the subject of my first blog). I subscribe to Rhapsody (and use their to-go feature to great advantage), read Uncut and Mojo every month, and have a job that allows me to listen to music 8-12 hours a day (including my 120 mile round trip commute). I still find myself looking for ways to listen to more music.

My goal is to introduce folks to some music that they might not have found on their own. I hope that you enjoy reading it, and welcome your feedback.

Another Big Surprise - REM Live!

Posted 01-16-2008 at 05:22 PM by elrod-tom (It's all about the music!!)

I'll say it again, one of the things that I really value about services like Rhapsody is that I get to try out some new music prior to buying it. In theory, that ought to result in fewer music purchases...but that's not how it's working out. Truth is, I buy more now because for every album that I wouldn't buy because I listened first, I find 2-3 that I either wouldn't have known about or would have assumed I wasn't interested.

Such is the case with one of my more recent purchases,...

Yes...I really AM that old!!

I am lucky enough to be able to listen to music pretty much all day every day at work. Only occasionally, when things get REALLY hairy, do I have to take off the cans (lately the AKG K-81DJ). Of course, I'm not the only one...many of my coworkers do the same thing (well, they don't have the good taste in gear that I have, but oh well... ).

I keep a stack of 60 or so 4.7gb dvd-r's in my cube, with 320K files burned onto them. If you figure your garden variety...

A Big Surprise...Babyshambles - Shotter's Nation

Posted 01-02-2008 at 04:28 AM by elrod-tom (It's all about the music!!)

Well, this is my first installment in my new blog. As I stated above, my main objective is to introduce folks to music that they might not find on their own. To this end, I submit for your approval, Babyshambles' newest CD, Shotter's Nation.

Now I don't mind telling you that I thumbed my nose at this one right off the bat. I was never all that crazy about The Libertines, and my first listen to Babyshambles was their (IMHO very weak) first album, on Rhapsody. Plus, let's be frank,...
