Micro Meet Success :D

Yesterday another Head-Fier came over to my apartment for about 3 hours, would have listened longer but I had to get pickup the Misses.

Anyway, he brought over Denon D5000/D7000 and a BeyerDynamic DT880 250ohm plus a super c-moy. I was happy to say that I was VERY impressed by all the cans he brought. He listened to my humble collection but did not experience the WOW that I did. He is a stealth member and did not want much personal information on the internet so I took some pics quickly of the gear and that's it. No candid shots of quality of happiness though many times I was struck with huge smiles .

First of all I used his C-Moy which I had never used or even seen in person and was very suprised by its output, it did have a 5mw opamp he said in it. Maybe that helped, but it shows that you really don't need much to enjoy, but for longer sessions a lower noise floor is really important. Anyway, onto the impressions.

I have been in the market for a long time for a can that shows me really good bass. I used the Batman Dark Knight Soundtrack for the Denons and some Pink Floyds, etc.

But first he showed me the Beyers, I had thought they would be a good fit for me based off reviews here, but I did not expect their amazing headstage and sparkle, with accurate bass. I did not listen very long but from my brief experience I am definately going to be getting a pair especially for only $250, COME ON! It's a no-brainer. Heres a quick snapshot

Next was the Denon D5000. Now he advised me about rubbing off the letters due to the lack of varnish like the D7000 has. So I was very careful, and after putting them on I was very happy at the level of comfort they came with. So I turned them on with a random track off of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, I immediately was like wow these are nice man. But to get a real tase of the Bass went to some Kanye which was hard hitting but not as textured, so next came Batman Soundtrack.

Now the Batman Soundtrack is really a great tool to test headphones. The track Aggressive Expansion showed me the ability for Denons to be really nice and sweet in the Mids and Highs, than all of a sudden... BOOM I was like YES FINALLY What Ive been looking for! I also loved the way it portrayed pink floyd's mid's and high's on "Have a Cigar" it was just great.

Next he finally showed me the Delicate Monsters aka Denon AH-D7000. Now at first I put them on and noticed the varnish on the cups which is nice and the different plug. At first I could tell NO difference whatsoever, and it was like a "what?" moment. But after awhile of switching back and forth I tried the first track of the Batman Soundtrack, Why So Serious?... This song has a unique transition from a high and mid clanking sound at the 3:20 portion which is followed by a INTENSE LOW BASS when this hit it was dead silence and then it was like a WAH WAH WAH sound and it was perfectly accurate and the best part, it made a vacuum on my ears and felt it moving so much it was like having loudspeakers or a bass on my ears. It was the most amazing moment I have ever experienced with headphones, so I tried it with the D5000 and it was still GREAT but just not the POWER of the D7000.

After trying other music, I noticed the mids on the D5k were more pronounced and full, due to the low bleeding into the mids more, gives it more body and power. However the bass impact on the D7k was just magnificent and I cannnot explain enough how that was amazing. I am really torn between the two but given the choice I think I will order D7K first and get D5K after for a companion. Will MarkL mod the D5K and leave the D7K stock. Let's see if you can tell which is which by the below picture.

All in all it was an eye or should I say ear-opening day, and it showed money can be spent alot better depending on cans. The amount I paid for my ESW10jpn I could get the D5k AND DT880. That is just insane and made me a little frustrated :P

Thanks alot to odigg for coming over and really giving me my first chance to hear before I buy
