Man, it's been a couple years since I had the W5000, and I'd forgotten that I did notice that horrible resonance you mention! In fact it was so bad that when I paused the CD player in the middle of playing music (moderately loud) I could hear a faint metallic ringing for around 0.5-1 seconds afterwards (from the headband, not ringing in my ears).
Your graph looks like exactly what I was hearing. I had to press the cups HARD against my face (and keep them there) - probably even much more than the force of the velcro band - to get what I felt was a decent frequency response.
I agree with your observations, these were not the headphones for me

Too bad, because they probably have very very nice drivers, and the ebony cups are very pretty.
