To answer the original question, the 600 IS an improvement over the 580, and the improvement will be quite audible using a good source into a good amp (and everything I've read indicates that the Earmax Pro is a good amp).

How dramatic is the improvement? Hard to say. These are very similar cans, with very similar sounds. The 600 seems to have a little more resolution, go a little deeper... but all those little things add up. Even so, most of the sound of the 600 is present in the 580.

IMO, if you like the sound of the Sennheisers and want the best possible presentation of that sound, the 600 is a worthwhile upgrade (although you might want to consider getting a Clou replacement cable for the 580 first. If you still want to upgrade your headphone, it will also work with the 600).

If you're looking for something that sounds dramatically different than the 580, you want a different brand of headphone.
