Erm...on the -ize v. -ise issue. I know it's convention in the Commonwealth to spell words with -ise, but to say that "-ise is British and -ize is American" as this implies is a bit of an oversimplification. The Oxford English Dictionary, for example, takes a prescriptive stand on this and asserts that "-ize" should be normative, as it is more etymologically conservative.
