My first worthy headphone was the sr80. When I went to my friend's house, I heard the sr60 and was amazed. Airy vocals, soundstage - it was revelatory of what was out there. A bit later, I had a chance to get a good headphone, which ended up being the SR 80. The second I put them on, I started shaking my body...to ambient music!(Fyi ambient is a genre you sit down to and listen critically imo). It was the first time I actually grooved to ambient.
From then on I started rediscovering my music collection. But later on, I discovered that the highs were too harsh, even though not harsh enough for me to get rid off. However, to make a complete gift of the computer I was giving a friend, I ended up handing him the SR80. But yea, your findings of the SR 80 amped has me thinking "what if's" about those highs...
