I don't think people by the Harbeths for 10x the price of your Alpha because they believe they are 10x better. People pay the bigger bucks because it gets them closer to what they think is the best sound for them on some incremental basis but and that doesn't mean a direct connection between dollar paid and percent of improvement in sound quality.
No question the stands are expensive. Are they worth the money, that's an individual choice and many times depends on whether you are in a position to afford them. I would rather not have my speakers on a pile of encyclopedia. I had them on worse for a while but it was always with the idea of getting something better when I could.
