I don't know if you know this but the USPS is just about the most expensive way to ship a package.
Maybe not for long distances like this (maybe less expensive in fact) but it's also the idea of how many times it would have to change hands as it made its way. I get pretty nervous any time I pack up multiple thousands of dollars of hand made, irreplaceable gear.
EDITAnd it is most certainly not the same amount of $$ to ship via USPS regardless of destination. Maybe for priority mail but many of the packages would be forced to be shipped via parcel post (I just ran the numbers) and the cost can vary by up to 3x depending on destination. Sorry to burst your bubble.
