The HD280s can (surprisingly for their size) fold flat enough to fit in a knapsack or laptop bag. That's what I do with them while traveling.  My only problem with their sound is their anemic bass, which can be alleviated if you aren't afraid of your MP3-player's equalizer/bass boost functions. They can handle a surprising quantity (and quality) of bass, it just needs to be brought out of the music through EQ.
