Ah, yeah, good point. Most active monitors don't have volume knobs, since they're meant to be used with separate preamps, though you could use software volume control.

If you have a little more desk space, you could buy an inexpensive amplifier and a used set of nice bookshelf speakers, but that route requires some research. You'd have a volume knob and a headphone jack with most integrated amps and receivers. Otherwise, computer speakers are still your best option.

Have you heard the ProMedia 2.1s in person?
