The chassis is a Serener GS-L02, and pictures don't even begin to do justice to the glossy brushed aluminum finish. The front panel is blank except for a horizontal indentation where it isn't brushed, and a pair of LEDs for power and HDD. I got mine way cheaper than normal because it was open box, but the only distributor (Logic Supply) lied about what it was and wasn't missing, and ignored me once I found out it was missing half the parts, so I ended up having to do a
lot of DIY work to make it functional. The manufacturer also has the GS-L01 which takes a 2.5" HDD and slim optical drive instead of the 3.5" HDD, and also has the usual 5 million front panel connections.
Motherboard/CPU is a VIA VB7001G with C7-D, and runs much hotter than the C7 CPUs, but the heatpipe assembly and chassis (which is a giant heatsink) work great to keep it at a reasonable temperature. The chassis is warm at idle, and gets a bit hot under full load (not too hot to touch though), which is a good sign since it means the heat is actually transferring to the chassis. I imagine with a lower powered mini-itx board it would stay even cooler, but the VB7001G was cheap, and since this may get expanded to serving other purposes in the future having the extra computing power available isn't a bad thing.
HDD is a Western Digital 1TB WD10EACS... performance isn't a necessary factor since the network here will be a bigger bottleneck than the HDD, and this isn't a heavily loaded mission critical server or anything.
