A) Yeah, you don't want to spend that kind of money for $350 speakers.

B) I remember when I first started to make headphone amps and one of the issues early on was why spend $1000 on the amp when the headphones only cost $200. Over time, headphones got more expensive and the amps got cheaper and got better.

I think the real point is that in the system we're talking about, you're looking at:

$1000 to $3000 speakers

$800 to $1600 in amps

$800 to $1600 in preamp

$500 to $1000 in sub

$300 to $600 in cables

So a $500 stand is not really out of line. Speaker positioning does significantly help to eek our those precious few percent improvements that you're working at getting with audiophile gear.
