The iPod 5.5G uses a 1.8" IDE (ATA-100) interface drive with a tiny ZIF40 connector. You'll need a IDE-to-USB converter to make this work. However, such converters with a ZIF40 connector seem hard to find, so you may need an additional ZIF40 adapter to whatever connector style that the USB converter uses.
Also, I am not aware of any general purpose 1.8" drive enclosure, so you'll have to make some sort of mount for the drive to fit it into a 2.5" drive enclosure of something similar.
