The engineers put those extraneous parts there just to waste vast sums of company money....

And -- the person that received an RMA number for their non-working cans -- that is your clue to send the cans back for replacement. Why didn't you do that, instead of taking them apart? Please elaborate on this point?
And what is meant by a "tag" that was mentioned with the RMA number?
Trying to understand the last few posts here....
