Well yeah, the "box" I drew could have an on/off switch, 3.5mm in and out or just out and a cable with the dock on the end coming out, AC in etc.
If I made one I would just do it as cheap as possible though. Dock with nothing but L, R and G coming out for maybe 2 inches, then 2 v-caps in line on the L and R, covered in big heatshrink, and a male or more likely, female mini plug. All one piece, just like what I drew but with no box. To save money

I like Ken's idea best, the dock with a fixed cable into a small box with all the features mentioned. The length of cable should be just enough so it can sit under the imod, as pictured.
