but Solude was talking about 16bit, 44.1kHz material...
or do you mean that the output would be 24bit but the original data would still be preserved, even if the DAC is receiving a 24bit signal? (something like 16bit+volume information :s )

Team Overspending - If money doesn't bring happiness, why keep it when Hi-Fi can make you smile?
The tape is rolling, and Diana and Russel are halfway through You're looking at me. Where is that girl, Diana sings, who was certain her charms couldn't fail? Where is that girl who believed every word of this ridiculous tale? Nat Cole sang those lines with the wry detachment of a man to whom love came easily; Diana sings them with the ruefulness of a woman who knows better. A slight spin on the word ridiculous, a glint of irony, and suddenly you remember how it feels to stare at the ceiling at three in the morning, and you know that the shy-looking blonde in the corner booth is remembering the same thing. And you shiver.
The last silvery guitar chord fades away into dead silence. A pause. "Gorgeous," Tommy LiPuma whispers. "Gorgeous."
"Really?" Diana Krall asks plaintively, sounding for all the world like a twelve-year-old whose father just told her she was the prettiest girl at the party. "Are you sure I didn't screw up something?"
No way.
