First I need to apologize for this rambling post and the fact that it’s close to thread jacking.
I have a Meizu m6sl and for the past two years it’s been my primary player. I expect it to quit in the near future for no particular reason other than it has had a lot of use. I am able most days to use it for eight hours at work. Sadly, or maybe not, most of my listening is audio books which in itself isn’t bad, it’s just hard to find new music that really gets me going and my work environs are very noisy. I do listen to music so that is a determining factor in choosing my next player. I have some great sound isolating iems and full size cans and a large collection of flac files.
The Cowon line specifically interests me, not as a video player just a good quality audio device that just happens to do video. The Meizu also does video just not natively. video would be a bonus feature in any new player in my eyes along with a touch screen. Up to this point the D2, S9 or D2+ have been on the short list at least till I saw this Telcast T51. Play time of 10 hours isn’t a concern since I charge every day. I already have a few amps; the fiio5 and a little dot mk1 that’s already rolled to the LT1364. Meizu seems to have gone the iphone clone route, abandoning the audio section in favor of a more upscale market. I wish them luck, they really did make a great little player. New M6s are still around and that’s an option except the limit is 8gbs. Wifi and Bluetooth while nice are unnecessary for me.
The Meizu has a number of sound enhancements such as the spatializer, phase corrected equalizer and virtual bass enhancement. The cowon has bbe and mach bass.
Does the T51 have any of these settings?
Is the line out fixed or variable?
Any idea of the mw output on this from the hp jack? (I looked, maybe not hard enough)
Is the play time better using an outboard amp?
Opinions and suggestion are welcome

Dap. Meizu M6sl, Cowon D2 16Gb, Fuze (Rockbox)
Iems. Shure SE310, KlipschX5, X10, HAFx66, UE Tf10 <remolds coming when i can bear to part with them.
Hp. Sennheiser545, 465, PX100, Koss ESP9, Stax Lambda (Normal Bias) Fostex T50RP, ATH A700, KCS75
Amp. Little Dot MKI, Fiio E5

It's common known bug, it was mentioned in Chinese forum. People seemed like the sound enough to tolerate it.

I am a big fan of the T51, and I would really want to know from you how it would sound from the little dot mk1 using its LO. BUTTT!! As I can read, you will not benefit from this player at all.

First, if you will use it in a noisy area, you will not hear any detail or the good SQ. It will be lost through the lack of isolation of your headphones.

Second is the battery life. If you will use it for a long time, 10h will not be enough for you and it wll get anoying for you to load it every day.

I have the D2+ DAB, this player has nice SQ too and lasts for 50 h, wich is amazing. I loaded it 2 weeks ago and today it still runs, even though I must say I anly use it in the train.

Another good point for the D2+ is that you can tweak it till your hands bleed. There is a lot of to adjust, eq, bass, stereo enhance, and so on. The T51 is poor in that direction, but I still wait for the new firmware, maybe there are changes in this direction too. On the other hand, except for the bass I would not change the eq settings of the T51.

When I bought the D2, I got a voucher for a audiobook.

IEMs: Sennheiser IE8, Ortofon e-Q7
Headphones: Ultrasone 900 PRO, Audio Technica ESW9
Portable Amps: Fiio E5, Cmoy, iBasso D10, FiiO E7
DAPs: Cowon D2+, Teclast T51, Sansa Fuze v1, IPod Classic, IPod Video, Ainol V3000HD, Ramos T11TE, Cowon V5HD

^ thanks, i usually go in feet first but in this case i may let some of you early adopters have at it until the firmware is stable. yeah the D2+ seems like a real nice unit, rock solid, configurable and expandable. this is what i'll probally get and most likely be very happy.
man, i surely have a real bad itch with this player though. the s/n ratio is better than some of my hifi stuff.

edit the wolfson chip in the meizu is an early version of the telcast one, it is a very capable ic. ten band eq etc. even after all the years the player, Meizu still has bugs; the clock won't keep the right time (slow) and some files stutter; easily fixed by pausing/restarting.

even with the short comings you seem pretty happy with yours.

The codec in the Meizu is WM8987, a standard low power part used by many other Chinese manufacturers. T51 uses (2) WM8740, a DAC that predates the 8987 and not really meant for portable audio, thus the feeble battery life. The Mezu M8 SE phone uses a WM8993, one of the latest generation low power codecs from Wolfson; on paper much better in all respects than the 8987 in the M6. Judged on multimedia alone, the M8 is one of the best phones around...add the phone part to the equation and you start hitting bumps.

its pity for Meizu to cancel the release of M7, we really don`t need mobile phone in it

Something about that.
If the M8 could match up the previous M6 in sound I would have joined this phone though but I personally I wasn't comfotable since it never really reached an international release.

Back to tropic. If this T51 got a lot of hiss I have just no interest in such thing.

Wait until next year; Meizu may surprise you. Nothing's going to happen before they finish the v1.0 firmware and release the 3G version of the phone, though.

I rather prefer a more masculine UI, at least the black crappy one. And where is album art? Damn Teclast, a little more customer orientation please!

I have placed my purchase order for the Nationite S:flo2 16GB model. They say that shipment will begin early December and I am very excited at the thought of finally having a top quality DAP with dual Wolfson DAC chips with pure audio signal sent directly through a dedicated line-out jack. I will be connecting this to my iQube.

I don't know how well I will cope with this long wait until I finally get my hands on the S:flo2.

^ yes ships on 12/9.... not that far and you aren't far from the shipper also. you may get it first, wouldn't that be great!
can't wait to see the new firmware reviews. i assume the firmware will be posted here first. Google Translate ? so far, just 1.10 is listed.

i didn't post a direct link to the firmware, there's a subheading to firmware on the page.
