iTunes giving me "detected problem with audio configuration" error

iTunes was running fine even last night and earlier tonight. Then when I connected my iPod to the system, I started getting this "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio / video playback may not function" error.

Did a search and as advised uninstalled Quicktime and re-installed the standalone version. But I am still getting the error. Then I uninstalled both Quicktime and iTunes and subsequently re-installed standalone version of Quicktime and iTunes - but I am still getting errors.

I have even tried un-installing and re-installing my audio drivers. And iTunes is still not working!

What's the deal? I did not mess with my audio drivers and iTunes was still working earlier tonight.

I am running Windows XP on an Intel E6550 with Asus P5K-E, which has an ADI AD1988B.

Any advice thoroughly appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

After trying many different things, it came down to . . . un-installing Comodo Firewall!! I can't understand how a firewall could screw up iTunes, but that's what it did.

Seems to working OK now. Keeping my fingers crossed.

So was this definitely the issue?

I tried to use itunes last night and started getting this error (which actually went worse as itunes loads but only the black text of the menus, nothing else, the rest looks like the desktop).

As with you, uninstalled and reinstalled, quicktime, itunes, audio drivers etc....

It's a shame if it is comodo as I really like the program (except the latest update where it went a bit wampy so I rolled back to the previous update where I've stayed since).

Well, all I can say is that I have had no problems since un-installing Comodo. I now use Zone Alarm.

I experienced the same problems as you - iTunes would "load" but the interface went black or transparent, so everything looked like the desktop, but the menus would drop down if you manage to hover over them.
