NEWS: PortaCode : The Utimate Battery Powered Headphone Amp

Phil LaRocco justed post some update on his latest project - the PortaCode, which is a battery powered, transportable version of the famed HeadCode.

From what Phil said, the PortaCode shouldn't be too far away. I believe this is going to be one of the best, top-of-the-line solid state amp available to mankind, regardless of cost. May be it is time to save up

More information here :-

PortaCode Preliminary Introduction

From PPA to Pocket Reference II, to Lisa III XP to HeadCode, I think Phil is one of the most talented headphone amp designer on this planet. Just wonder what kind of sonic level will the PortaCode bring ?

F. Lo

Music aside, it is the discovery part that make head-fi self-fulfilling. One step at a time.

i personally tested and live with the headcode, i tested it vs the M3 and the Emmeline XP-7 and the Emmeline HR-2 and a few other amps, it is one or two leagues above them all.

just like my Sony R10 is in a league of its own, so is the headcode in its own league, better transparency, tons of inner details, dark and silent background, these are just some of the distinctive characteristics of the headcode

in case the portacode will be in the same level as the headcode (i believe it will), then it is going to be one of the best headphone amps ever (SS or tubes), regardless of the added bonus of being transportable and the option of batteries.

for all those that don't know: Phil LaRocco is not a part of LaRocco audio.

Phil did most of the designs for LaRocco audio, but for over a year he has no contact with the company in any way (other then his name)

therefore connecting Phil himself with the products of LaRocco audio, is simply unfair.

on the link it says that the amp will be fully discrete like the headcode.
further more it will have the unique diamond buffer on its latest version and will have three channels like Phil's originals invention.

as for the price i assume it will be in the 1.5k$-2k$ area.

Wow, I was completely unaware of this fact; and I retract my sly remark on the Diablo's current status above.

most people don't know the fact that Phil LaRocco and LaRocco audio are only connected by name, therefore most people react toward Phil the way you reacted.
for some reason Phil does not do too much about the issue but i hope that with time it will change.

FYI, Phil himself designed the relatively new "Lisa" amp of "triad audio".

2K for a transportable? Hmmmm.I dont get the idea of transporatables. I would be more excited about this if it were a cheaper (more affordable) version of the Headcode instead of a tranportable version. Now if its a portable version which is also more affordable, id be having goose bumps all over. But that's just me.

The only thing I dislike about his designs is the damn bass boost control, get rid of it and I'm all over it.
