Will an in line headphone volume control degrade the sound ?

Does anyone have any experience or opinion on using an in line volume control with headphones ?
Will it degrade the sound ?

totally dependant on both the potentiometer and system quality.The impedance of the volume pot is so low you do not need to worry about added noise just the sonics of the chosen control which will be directly in the signal path and if the system is not a high res one it would make little difference.

It will not improve it but you probably already knew that.Don't use one unless you really need it.Less is more.
